When colleges say that their online application deadline is say, March 1st.... (or other ones: Feb 15, March 15), do they mean its due at midnight on March 1st or due at midnight on February 29th (leap year)?

For Feb 15th deadline, is it due at midnight on Feb 14th or 15th?

I am asking because I unfortunately have procrastinated for my essays and need as much time as possible. Is it okay to submit, say...2 pm on March 1st?

Usually, if it says it's due by March 1st, that means up until 11:59:59 on March 1st evening. (just before March 2nd).

But be careful--because if you are applying by "snail mail", some schools go by the date mailed and other go by the date received.

I know somebody who mailed on the deadline date, but their application went into the "received late" grouping because this school required it to be received by that the deadline date. Too bad, since this particular school had a policy of accepting students "only if there are openings available after filling current spots with applications received by the deadline date"--and there were none that particular year.

thanks for your response... can anyone else confirm on this? I am applying online so it would be okay if I send it right before March 2nd? 11:59:59 March 1st?

thanks for the help, guys. much appreciated :D

I would err on the side of caution and not tempt fate by sending it in at the last conceivable minute. It's not as if one day is going to make a difference on your essay.

The deadline for submitting Transfer Applications and Application Supplements is FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 15. We will allow a one day extension, through Saturday, February 16. Neither the Common Application website, nor the Universal College Application website will allow the on-line submission of forms after 11:59 p.m., EST on February 16. All applications submitted by mail must be postmarked by February 16 in order to be considered.
