I know schools have deadlines on fafsa submission. Between February and March normally.
If your FAFSA is selected for verification, one of the ways to verify is to do TAX retrieval info into FAFSA.
Is there typically a deadline for this to be done? Taxes may take a while to get done.
This is for continuing student.
Schools often have deadlines for this, look on the school portals. But I think the deadlines are mostly in order to get an actual award letter vs. an estimated one. You want to not delay any more than absolutely necessary but schools know some tax situations take extra time. If your estimates are close then I don’t think there is much to worry about.
So I missed the continuing student part at first but will leave the above. Did your student get emails about verification and what to do? Were there deadlines in the email? There are also forms to fill out besides doing the DRT. Again though I don’t think the deadlines are hard and fast, just do things as soon as possible. If in doubt, email the school and explain why things will be delayed.
Maybe just for a frame of reference…I worked at a school that had a paperwork deadline of July 1st. This date ensured that all of your aid would be authorized in time for the August 1st payment. If you had tax paperwork for verification that wasn’t submitted by this date, the aid would still be an estimate and unable to be applied towards billing at all. This led to a much larger payment come Aug. 1. However, I worked at a fairly small school…other schools may need more or less time to process paperwork just depending on enrollment size, size of staff, etc. Even if your estimates are close, the official paperwork is likely needed to have aid applied towards the billing statement. With that all being said, check with the school. Policies may vary.
