Deadlines...by, before, when?

<p>If a colleges deadline says January 20th...does that mean before January 19 at 11:59pm or before January 20th 11:59pm?</p>

<p>It is by the end of the day on January 20th, so 11:59 pm in the school’s time zone (typically) on January 20th.</p>

<p>Common App uses EST, so keep that in mind as well. Certain schools make exceptions, but it’s probably best not to test the vast majority.</p>
