Has anyone compiled a list with deadlines and links to info for the top/major/main scholarships out there?

Go to your HS Guidance or Career Center and/or HS website. They should have books/ files with scholarship information for you to work from. If this is not available go to your public libraries' reference section. Books for all students, women only, minority students, athletes are available. FastWeb website lists scholarships you qualify for after you fill out info. questionaire. There are other scholarship search websites available for free.

The 'major' or national scholarships will have thousands of applicants. For example in recent years the Coca Cola scholarship has had over 100,000 applications with applicants almost entirely at 4.0+ GPA and extensive and unique ECs. If you feel you qualify for any scholarship, apply. Read the criteria listed on any app. and evaluate your chances realistically.

Most students receive the most aid/scholarships from the college that they attend either through need based or merit scholarships. Check your colleges FinAid requirements. Some will require you to apply for FA with your application to attend.

Smaller, local scholarships ( often sponsored by fraternal organizations, churches, parents' employers and/or military service by parents) are generally more attainable than the nationals unless you have major hooks. Yes, the majority of these scholarships are "small", but if you win one for $500 and you spent an hour on the application that's a great result financially!
