Well anyway, my school's deadline is december 1st for applying to colleges, but most of the colleges I want to apply to deadlines are around january and some are even february. Now I obviously know that getting the apps in the earlier is the better, but does it really hurt your chances by that much if you maybe want to apply at the end of December? I know that the deadline for my school's helping me is December 1st, but that doesn't mean that I can't apply by myself right? And if I do apply without my school's help is it that much harder?

bump...anyone?

You need to find out what the school means by its deadline. At my son's school, the deadline for requesting to have transcripts sent to colleges is December 1. That gives the guidance office a whole month to process all the transcripts that have to reach colleges by January 1.

You may not need any guidance-type help to determine what colleges to apply to, but you do need them to send your transcripts. There's no way for a college to get your transcripts other than through your guidance counselor's office.

If your deadline for applications is January 1, then you have a little time to finish them up. But the colleges will not be able to make a decision about you unless your transcripts arrive in time.

Hope this answers your question!

is it okay if I just send the transcripts out to the colleges i want to go to first, and then the application and all that later on?

Yes, that would be fine. It doesn't matter what order your materials arrive at the colleges, as long as the application gets there before the official deadline.
