Dean College

Hey everyone! After my audition for Dean College at Chicago Unifieds, I got an email yesterday saying that I was accepted into their MT concentration of their Theatre major with a really nice performing arts scholarship. Does anybody know anything more about their program? It seems nice and the faculty seem great (guy who I auditioned for was the one who used to be at Emerson and Yale, he was very nice and worked with me on my monologue), but the school itself doesn’t have a lot of Bachelor degree programs, it seems mainly like an Associate’s degree school and that was kind of odd to me. I just can’t find too much on the MT program and the school itself. I want to go to a school that I love, not just a program I love. I’m planning on visiting all of my acceptances so we’ll see how that goes. But if anybody knows anything, I’m very curious!!

My D also got accepted to their MT program (its a BA that appears to have BFA like qualities-but not a true BFA) with a generous scholarship also. We got the same supportive reception at Unifieds. Are there any Dean students(present or past) or parents out there that are able to offer any insights into the pros and cons of the program. It would be very helpful to get that perspective. Thank you!

If you don’t get much info (I hope you do) I would visit the campus and sit in on a class. Get the feel of how they run their courses. Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith and go with a program that is up and coming. It may turn out to be a diamond in the rough

That’s a good idea! Hopefully I’ll be able to do so. And I’ll report back what I find for future classes

I am a current Senior theatre major MT concentration at Dean. I have been in this program for the last 4 years and it has become a second home to me. You pulled a really strong relationship with teachers and students here on campus. We are a BA degree so with your theatre classes you will also be taking general education classes. The plus side to this is that you become a well rounded person and can use your knowledge to apply to your acting. One of the best things about dean freshman year is that you can start auditioning for shows the first week you are here. It allows you to apply what you are learning in your theatre classes that night in rehearsal.

For dean in general we have both associate and bacalorette degrees. Most of the theatre students stay for four years and every year dean has been adding new four year programs. We also are currently transitioning into a D3 school for sports.

I hope this helped! If you have any other specific questions let me know. I will be glad to answer!

@JessLuhm It did help! Thanks so much  I’ll PM you if I think of any more questions!
