I don’t think so, she dosn’t get out of the Stanford area that much since she didn’t take her car there. She just bikes and takes the shuttle to the train when she goes into SF. Or with others that have cars like when they escaped to wine country for the weekend while the Super Bowl was happening.
Were the awards shipped out today?
His house is walking distance from the Stanford campus. When we were there this summer, it must have been graduation day, as several folks (I assume faculty) walked by his house in their robes and hoods.
Oh well then, you never know!! She hasn’t mentioned it. I guess I didn’t realize he was that close. I know he makes a great salary, but the housing that close to campus is a fortune!! We should take this to PM.
Getting this back on track (totally my fault for the personal asides above, sorry), I see nothing from admissions that they have sent out the packages yet. Every year I can remember they post a picture somewhere of all the envelopes lined up in their boxes waiting for UPS to come get them. Either through Twitter, Instagram or Jeff’s blog or all of the above I would expect to hear them announce their release. I would think this coming week for sure.
Bummer. Still waiting. Now I can stalk a Twitter feed and a blog! Thanks!
Try the stunt we mentioned above ( looks like 2 threads were merged here). If you have a UPS account, try checking now and then to see if you have a package being sent to you from Tulane’s zip code. Some seemed to have luck with that in the past. Of course if they haven’t been shipped, its too early to check unless you want to raise your blood pressure, LOL.
@jym626 Do you know how one exactly does this? I have a UPS account but where do I go to find out if a package is on the way? Thanks
We couldn’t figure out how to track either. Even with an account, we still need a tracking number.
So we wait. Hopefully today!?
Sorry, I don’t recall. Maybe do a search on the DHS in the Tulane forum from past years and it might say. Or ,maybe this helps? https://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/track/check/
OK- update. Just checked DS’s from umpteen years ago. It was sent UPS next day air saver. So unless things have changed, I’d guess that’s how it would be sent.
That was meant for the other thread, so will copy it there, but it is relevant here too, so hope it remains.
my daughter received the DHS today. she is tone thrilled Minnesota kid.
@calvinandtux congrats! still waiting for an email/snail mail
I’m currently a junior in high school and have already started planning my DHS application.
Could anyone share what they submitted as their project for the DHS this year? I’ve heard about a lot of musical submissions. That’s currently my main idea. Original song by me on fiddle and guitar in Louisiana Creole, Cajun French, (possibly Spanish to represent the Isleños) and English (with subtitles) talking about all the reasons Tulane is great and why I belong there.
Stats are ACT: 32, GPA: 3.75, in top 5% of class, will have taken APUSH, APHG, AP Lit, and AP Spanish, perhaps AP Enrionmental at time of application. (Signed up for AP Lang next year.) Hispanic Honor Society, Varsity Lacrosse, Model UN, Latin American Coalition volunteer, volunteered as an interpreter in Honduras for missions groups two summers. I’m afraid my stats barely squeak by. I’m already aiming to get 34 on my ACT. Am I going to get brushed aside for such a low number of APs?
Tulane is my top choice right now. I think getting the DHS or similar scholarship is my only way of attending. I’m currently planning to major in International Relations and a foreign language. My other ideas are linguistic anthropology or journalism.
(This will be my first post so please excuse me if it’s in the wrong place. Thank you!)
Run with it @CajunRouge ! No need to copy anyone, you are on your way! It sounds like you have a great plan with all the pieces that Tulane is looking for. Good luck!
I agree with @DebmomNY , @CajunRouge . It is best to be as original and fresh as possible on your project, and reading/hearing about others might just make it harder for you. But some people get more confidence if they have some kind of basis to jump off from. The other DHS thread had some people describing their projects, I think starting with post #96. It is scattered after that. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/tulane-university/1860315-dhs-and-pta-notifications-p7.html Also if you go to YouTube and search on both DHS Tulane and Deans (Dean’s, Deans’) Tulane you will see a variety of projects from this year and before. Same for if you want to search this forum, there have been posts in past where people talk about projects, but you have to slog through a lot of posts to find them.
I think your number of AP’s is fine. You seem to be in nice shape to apply, although no question a 33+ on the ACT will help. But there were some winners this year with 32 for either the DHS or the Paul Tulane. You will want to apply for both of course, but the DHS will also get you in the running for the Stamps.
Unfortunately you can do all of the right things and still lose out on the big scholarships. Amazing test scores, Salutatorian of her class, long list of APs and extracurriculars - my daughter was nominated for the Stamps Award but was not given any of the large scholarships. She chose to attend Tulane anyway, and earned a 4.0 in her first semester with a huge course load. Even so, she has been passed over for membership in the Newcomb Scholars and the Tulane Scholars programs. Tulane takes care of some of its top students, but chooses to completely ignore others.
I know you were disappointed last year momofc, but the continued claim that your D was interviewed for the Stamps is not true and can seriously mislead people. Your D was one of 200 people interviewed by telephone, it had nothing to do with Stamps. Stamps interviews are via Skype and are conducted AFTER the DHS awards are announced. Your D’s interview was in early February, I believe you said. This was explained to you very clearly last year, and has been confirmed this year by carefully and diligently noting who was interviewed by telephone and who wasn’t. The results clearly show there is zero connection to being asked to interview for those calls and winning or not winning anything.
I would also add that not being selected for competitive programs is not the same as being ignored. But it should be moot. With the recent change to the Honors Program and Tulane Scholars, she should be able to join the HP, which is now really what was Tulane Scholars, at the end of this year assuming she gets at least a 3.8 cumulative. That should also make her eligible to live in Weatherhead with the rest of the HP group. Congrats on her 4.0 and Dean’s List, btw. She should contact Tom Luongo in the HP office if she has any questions.
It is certainly not my intention to mislead. If you read carefully, I stated correctly that my daughter was a Stamps nominee. That is precisely what the college stated in the email. She was not a finalist. I understand that. We have been surprised at the ill-defined nature of the Honors program at Tulane. That is good news about the Tulane Scholars program. I cannot understand why a top student would not be admitted into a program on merit alone. When is a 4.0 not good enough? When is a 4.0 not competitive? Right now we feel that the Scholars programs bear a strong resemblance to the Greeks - we like you, but not you… I have written to several people at Tulane and asked for an explanation. My emails have been completely ignored. I find that very rude. Maybe Tom Luongo can help.
