But that was because things worked out well for you. There was a 91% chance of you being rejected from Princeton and having to go to a community college or a university with rolling admision.

Thanks a lot for this. Really. I am relatively low income and I have recently just “got it all together.” But then again, everything seems like it’s crashing down again for my family. I have learned to remain diligent and focus. Thanks very much. Your inspirational and awesome!! You give CC underachievers like myself hope!

@wannabefeynman Had I been rejected from Princeton, I would have gone to WUStL. Had I been rejected from both, then I would have had the option of going to my state school. Honestly though, knowing me and the people around me who give me advice. I would have probably chosen to take a gap year to work/financially support my family and explore more, and then reapplied again the following year. It does happen. In fact, that is one of my best friends advised me to do. As an international, her only options were safeties that offered her limited aid, so she took a gap year to intern and work, reapplied, and went to Harvard. Obviously, this doesn’t happen to everyone. Again, I’ll repeat that this may not be the best idea. Again, yes, this is foolish. Most people would never go this route.

Still, it would have been the path I chose. Though you may disagree with my choice, I hope you can respect it.

@LaDiDaDaLaDiDa No problem! I am glad that I was able to help in some way! My family went through a very difficult time last year, and for me too, there were moments where I felt lost and overwhelmed by all of the problems that came up, both financial and otherwise. Luckily, I had a really amazing support group that encouraged me and got me through junior year without burning out. If you ever need someone to talk to, please feel free to reach out to me! I may be able to relate to some of the stuff you’re going through. :)

What a beautiful and eloquent post, gomdorri! I think you will make Princeton proud.

I’m about to be a senior in high school. I’m going crazy over raising my test scores and taking the right courses and doing the right extracurriculars. This post was, to say the least, a definite breath of fresh air.
And also, how did you manage to raise your SAT score that much???
