Death hurting Senior first sem grades?

Hi!

I applied to Northwestern, Georgetown, JHU, Boston College, Wellesley, and a few safeties this January.

I didn't get into my early school and my counselor wrote my rec in september. My grandfather (which has had heart problems for ages) passed away this november. It wasn't mentioned in my recommendation because it had already been written by then. The result has been that I had gotten two Cs and As in all the other courses due to stress.

I mentioned the death in Common App's 'additional info' section.

Do you think it'll hurt my chances?

I really don't want this to ruin what I've worked for for the past four years.

it really depends on your other stats (GPA, SAT, EC’s Essays, Awards, etc.) 2 c’s will hurt you a bit, but it definitely won’t “ruin” your chances at getting in at these schools if your other stats are up to par.

bump!!! D:

Can you give us some stats?

@littlelearner i have a 3.7 without this semester. With it, I probably will have a 3.5 or 6.
sat is 2310, very strong extracurriculars and essays.

bumpppppp!

With strong stats like yours, it probably wouldn’t matter much.
