Debate and Admissions

I do high school debate and am in the top 10 in my state (florida, one of the top for my even in the country) as a junior, I take a class during the day in order to prepare for tournaments, in addition to 5 hours of practice a week, with 10+ hours of research done a week for the activity...

What kind of weight do colleges give to debate, and forensics (speech and debate) as a whole? Because most CC forums are talking about mathletics, atheletics and the arts, I have no real expectations for how colleges will perceive this EC

If it’s something that you’re involved in as much as you are, and especially if you have the awards/ranking to back it up, it can be a strong EC. You could also ask your debate coach/teacher to write a rec for you to talk about your contributions to the team and that sort of thing.

Your participation in debate is not going to be considered any less than the same level of dedication in math/athletics/art. Perhaps it’s just that the CC crowd tends to gravitate to very specific activities. =)
