I qualified to ICDC and will be going. I compete in Restaurant Food Management, but can anyone give me tips on the role plays and especially the test. I do poorly on the test because I do not understand the terminology. Is their any study tools that I could use? How can I improve my role plays? What are some creative ways to do role plays? Thank You
Hey. I qualified for ICDC my ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade year. ICDC isnt as hard as they make it sound like. In my ninth grade year, I qualified for role-play in business finance (the hardest event) for ICDC. I medaled in the SCDC for both role plays and the test. For the test, I would recommend knowing how to take multiple choice tests (strategies involved) There are many youtube videos which help you do such. For the role-play, I would suggest you to go on the DECA website and download the Performance Indicators. From there, research each indicator and study them as study guides. I remember one year, all the performance indicators were on my study guide. (Placed 5th at ICDC) Some tips for the role-play
-Always ask to take a seat
-Always repeat your performance indicators at the beginning and end
-Somehow, mention Social Media (Its huge right now)
-Create a Visual (I remember creating a little laptop one year)
-Create a business card and hand it to them at the end
-Talk slowly
-Tell stories THAT MATCH THE ROLE PLAY (I had friends who would just tell random stories and it got them no where)
-Dont get a hot judge (I know you cant really change that, but I had a friend who didnt qualify because he couldst pay attention due to his judge being really hot)
-If you dont know the answer to a question, DONT MAKE IT UP. My trick is, “I did extensive research and data analyzation on ‘say topic’ and this research shows that ‘question that judge asks’ is not an important part of ‘say topic’ and does not have a large enough effect to take in account”
-Relax and have fun!
