**December 14 ACT Thread**

What was the answer to the question about colleagues?

Anyone reember the question about volume and the length being two times the width and the height = width?
I think I solved for width with 2w^2 but I can’t remember and I can’t remember my answer either?

Whoops I meant cubed **

Georgetown14 the answer was 8

The only thing I have done since I got home from the act is this forum and google apps lol

Was the science section really that difficult for you guys? Last time I got a 34 on science and this one was only a bit harder, I didn’t think it was too bad, I only didn’t know 3 so i may have missed up to 4. I found it kind of funny though how some of the prior knowledge questions were based on biology (like the endothermic bird) and I knew them for sure even though I hated biology and haven’t studied it in over 3 years.
So what’s a 36/40 on science?
The reading was kind of bad for me, I was never really good at anything besides math or science.

anyone got feather as an answer twice for the bird section?
One question was like which is unusual on a fossil
Other question was which did scientist A find but not scientist B
i put feather for both

I think these might’ve been two of the Reading Passages…

Yes??

hey everyone. my ACT today was postponed to some other day which i dont know. I was just wondering, do you guys think it will be the same ACT?

did you guys put “ignores” or “snubs” for the last english question about extinction? and for the last reading question was the answer something like SHakespeare getting our brain to do higher activity or something of that nature?

Something211 I put ignores and I put increase brain activity

The width question was 4 not 8. According to the question you had to divide by 2.

Jman5558 the width is 4 the length is 8, they were asking for the length

Singer was Rosetta Tharpe??

What was the question about Parmesan and saving the quarter-sized butterflies? It was like Parmesan proposed a way to save the quarter-sized butterflies and that so doing, maintain biodiversity.
A. No change
B. By which so doing,
C. In which doing so,
D. In so doing,

I put after sentence 4.

It’s after sentence 4

Was the answer to that ‘‘D’’? Alekya97

This is my first time taking the test. I’m a sophomore and have been studying about two or three nights a week for the past month to prepare for the test. Here’s my recollection.

Some of the questions were very different from the practice tests in the ‘Real ACT Prep Guide’, especially in Science. English is my best subject and I’ve consistently scored a 32-33 on the practice tests I’ve taken. Today’s English test had about 3 questions I was unsure of the answer to, including: the question about the butterflies (that doing, in so doing, whatever the choices were) and the question about whether or not to include the statement about her colleagues’ disagreements. Other than that, I was pretty comfortable with this section. On a hardness rating, it’s 1.4/5.

The Reading section followed the patterns that I am used to from the practice tests. In my opinion, it was also much easier than the practice tests. Maybe it was just because I liked the reading material better, I don’t know. I was pleased to find that most of the questions tested your comprehension of information in the passage, and not drawing conclusions, making inferences, etc. None of the questions gave me difficulty, but from reading the Google Doc someone has attached, it appears that I missed at least two. I’m pretty sure that’s all I missed, though. Difficulty, 1.6/5

Next up was the Math. After a short jog around my high school, I felt refreshed and expected to do well on this section (based on my standards, of course). The math practice test today was on par with the practice tests I’ve taken, albeit just a tad more difficult. I typically score about a 27 on it, so I’m no genius. I was pleased to see that there were no questions about complex numbers. The first half of the test was very easy, but the last ten problems I could not logically complete due to my time restraint and lack of knowledge. I predict that I will have missed about 10-15, still resulting in approximately a 27, depending on the curve. 3.5/5

Finally, we have the big boy. Now, I’ve taken science tests in the past and scored around 30, but today’s test was very different. I don’t know if it’s because it was my first time or something, but the minutes seemed to be eaten away quickly. I follow a certain pattern: do the Data Rep. First, followed by Conflicting Viewpoints, and finally Research Summaries. I believe the conflicting viewpoints is what caused me trouble, especially since it had 2 questions that required prior knowledge to answer correctly. This was something I had not seen in a practice test before, so I wasted time searching through the passage trying to find the information that simply was not there. Also some of the questions on the conflicting viewpoints passage were unusually tricky, involving complex inferences and conclusion-drawing. This was most likely the killer for test-takers today. In the future, conflicting viewpoints will be the last section answered by me. Furthermore, one of the Data Rep. passages was extremely hard to comprehend. It was the one that involved theta, distance, tension, and force. I basically had to guess on 10 questions, plus missing about one or two extra as per the Google Doc. From what I heard, EVERYONE had a lot of trouble with the Science portion of the test. The curve will most likely be in our favor. 4.6/5

Hey guys any1 want to post what they think the curve will be.
Here is what I think
English: 75 (i have never seen a -1 for a 36)
Math : 58-60
Reading: 40
Science: 38-40

I’m hoping for a curve much like the one for test 5 in the Redbook
