December 2007 US History

I have to say that the NYS Regents exam prepared me extremely well for this test... especially since two of the cartoons (the Tammany Hall one and the one with Uncle Sam planting flags on the world) were on a previous Regents exam.

I think I did pretty well with only 3 omits on the whole thing. I'm not sure though, I thought I did well on Physics after taking only Physics honors and only got a 710. =(

can someone confirm codered131's answer??

^ I believe that is Pragmatism( = experience)

SC crop = rice
WWII= women enter work force/employed
Diff btwn colonist and indians = property
$ Diplomacy = something about American investors and Nicaragua.

What exactly was the AFL question?

And I'm not sure about the Enlightenment one... I think I put something about natural rights... was that a choice??

the enlightenment emphasized logic over emotionalism. It denounced the practices of the church, not raised attendance. i cant remember the answer choices. i think i put natural rights but im not sure

and i think that the quote is transcendentalism because it was said by oliver wendell holmes who was a transcendentalist

actually the questions at the very bottom are the ones I do not really remember so they were quotes from other ppl

we already established that the quote was about transcendentalism

and I just remembered the enlightment thingy
yeah it promoted logical thinking so it was detrimental to the church
and it was part of the reason why the awakening started

Yes, the Enlightenment question was a difficult one.
The Americans feared the Enlightenment as if it were the Black Plague.
Thus, church attendance may have risen in response to what they perceived as an attack on God, Christianity, and their way of life...
Then again, the Enlightenment did stress natural right.

I put natural right : /

IT'D BE EASIER IF EVERYBODY ADDED TO THIS LIST THAT VOLATILE STARTED. SO PLEASE ADD QUESTIONS, ANSWERS, AND CORRECTIONS THAT YOU REMEMBER HERE THE BENEFIT OF OTHERS =)

I think I put all the same answers in the boldface as brokenwings did

Sears catalogthis was an everything EXCEPT question
-decrease in traditional department stores... <-- that's what i put but not sure if correct

I'm pretty sure that was the answer because didn't department stores like Marshall Fields and Macys flourish?

Mormon question
-persecution for insularity/polygamy

I put that as the answer cuz the question specifically asked for things that were not true during the colonial period. (or the 18th century)
the persecution part is probably a more recent problem

Paul Revere cartoon
-contempt of artisans

"Revere was a prosperous and prominent Boston craftsman, who helped organize an intelligence and alarm system to keep watch on the British military." quote from wikipedia

Does anyone remember the knights of labor question??
or any of the other questions below?

Vietnam War-Tonkin resolution
Quote about building, era? 1930's
AFL? did not gain support of government
Expanision Quote-Manifest desitiny/ acquisition of territory
Most Southerners? small farmers, not plant owners

knights of labor question said the following were causes for the increased membership EXCEPT:

-increase in urban population
-a few successful strikes
-inclusiveness
... and two other possible answers
hope that helped

thanks broken wings :)
so the answer was "government support" or sth like that, right?

no. wasnt the answer to the knights of labor question sucsessful strikes? The Haymarket Riot of 1886 and a couple others were UNSUCSESSFUL and drove union membership down.. didnt they?

Quick question...what would 10 wrong and 6 omits get me?

afro thats exactly what i thought and put

Paul Revere one is not the artisan one...
it was NOT a CONTEMPT for artisans...
it was a contempt for WORKING CLASS.

the answer for artisans was positive, not negative.

I agree that the Knights of Labor was the successful strikes answer and the Paul Revere one was whichever answer was negative.

I still think that the Oliver Wendell Holmes quote showed pragmatism and not transcendentalism...
