December 2010 ACT Math Discussion

What did the question ask?

Also, what was the one about two concentric circles? That was the one I wasn’t sure of. Was it (4-1.75)^2*pi?

@wings, yes.

I think it was something like -3,5 or 3,-5

i just graphed it

^Oh, that one. You’re right, it was. (3,-5) I’m pretty sure.

Awesome^^. I’m looking at -1 at the most (pressure problem, I have no idea what letter I put and it’s hard to get the graphs back) it seems.

It was (3,-5), I believe.

The center of the circle with the two endpoints. It was (0, 2) or something like that, right? Or was it the one with (0,7)? I thought it wasn’t the latter since 7 was a higher X value or something… Idk it was stupid reasoning. =l (Btw, not the question about what was the midpoint between the two…)

I think it was 0,7

I plotted the two points, and since it was the diameter the midpoint had to be inbetween

nothing else was close to the 0,7 so thats what I chose

0,7…100% sure

It was (0,7). Add the X values and divide by 2, then do the same with the Y’s.

…Dammit. This is why I shouldn’t rush through the test. >.<

Thanks for the answer.

Can anyone confirm the pump one if it was a or e for sure?

It was E. Confirmed!

wow…i messed up the turtle and the hare. i made some ■■■■■■■■ proportion and got like x/y instead of just reasoning it out to be xy.

kill me now?

36-----> KABOOM

also, does anyone remember the coordinates for the endpoints of the diameter?

Pretty sure the pressure problem was A… Atleast I think that’s what I put…

B went down and up slower (smaller slope) than A … and thats all that huge paragraph asked for

It also said that A had to go lower.

E was correct. I am 100%.

I don’t remember the 0,7 one?

So for the reflecting b across the midpoint- I got 12.5. From where were we supposed to calculate the distance from? If it was the line, the distance could be anything! Did it say? I read it several times and didn’t notice any specification.

What was the one with 5 choices to put in order. It wasn’t 5! ?

And the -16t^2 bouncing ball one? What was the answer?

For the (a)^m<(-a)^n question. First, is that the right equation? Second, what was the answer?
I got all the other question right. I put n must be even and n>m. If that’s the right equation, I think it should be right.

EDIT: The answer for reflection is definitely 7.5. Also, the line was definitely 120. The -16t^2 is 1 second.

@poly, TWO seconds. i think

EDIT: it might have been one…i plugged the equation into my calc, used the tables, and it was the second answer choice. idk if it started at 0 or 1. either way, it was B

nope. 1 second.
