December 2011 SAT Discussion

Were the math sections really that hard? They seemed easy to me…but maybe that’s because I took the Math Level 2 SAT last month. And I’m pretty sure that the “impossible” math section was the experimental one because I never got a math section that was as difficult as people described.

This was my first time taking the SAT, but I thought it was pretty difficult. Reading has never been my strongest point so, naturally, I found the reading a bit hard. Writing was easy- the essay wasn’t too bad. The math was really hard. When I took practice tests I had at least 5 minutes at the end of each math section, but I was forced to leave questions blank on the Dec SAT and I felt rushed. Overall, not feeling too confident.

Can anyone chance my score?
Math: -1 or -2
Reading: Probably -6…
Writing: 8 Essay, -2 on MC

Naathaan, how many did you skip? It dpeneds on the curve but I have a score sheet from my practice test book right here!

I didn’t skip any except one question in CR haha

Writing: 750, CR: 770, Math: 780-800

Which is pretty impressive. This is just according to my Kaplan prep book with lots of practice tests in it, so the curve could hugely affect your score or of course the book could be wrong. I mean not to discredit you but a nearly perfect score is a pretty big statement to make.

When I took the SAT’s both times I made matrices in my calculator of the questions I skipped, questions I thought I missed, estimated it with a decent margin of error, and was like 140 points off. Got a 2020 instead of the 2160 I expected. I’m guessing that’s because of the harsh November curve, but yeah.

Ah I’m probably overestimating then. Thanks though, I appreciate it. :)

I took the December 4 SAT. It was decent. There were questions in math that I guessed on because I was running out of time. The cracker box question was fun  That whole math section in general was interesting. It wasn’t too bad though. I’m guessing 2 or 3 wrong total.
Critical reading did seem especially hard for me, even though I’m almost sure I aced the second section. I finished 7 or 8 minutes early, so I went back and checked all my answers twice. I am almost positive I got none wrong on that section. The other section was a little irritating, since I ran out of time and didn’t answer a question as a result of that. Betting on 3 or 4 wrong.
Writing was breezy. I could positively identify every error and all the improvements were pretty obvious. Compared to the practice tests, the whole writing portion seemed substantially easier. Maybe 2 wrong.
The essay topic was great too. Lots of examples available, and I filled the whole two pages except for one line. 10-12 score for the essay.
Maybe I’m overestimating, but I think this test has a pretty good outlook for me.

See, I felt the same way about writing too. But this is also something that leads me to questions myself… I felt like it was almost TOO easy. Too easy as in I just didn’t know what I was talking about. Urgh. I don’t remember enough about the test at this point. I just hope the curve is better. If I could manage a 2020 on the Nov. test date I’m sure I’ll do fine.
