Does taking the ACT three times look bad?
It doesn’t look bad if it doesn’t exist. Delete scores you don’t like. Or just don’t send the scores you don’t want them to see.
You can take the ACT up to 12 times, and as mentioned above score can be deleted or simply not reported.
@mmk2015 is your spam comment directed towards me?
Not you HeretoHelp. You’re actually really helping these kids with great advice. You’re a good resource for these kids.
I directed that spam comment towards some idiot who spammed some useless website across several discussion blogs. Fortunately the idiot’s Spam was removed. But when it was removed, it looked like my comment was directed at you.
But it wasn’t. Sorry about the confusion!
Just wanted to mention - I went to a standardized test workshop at my son’s private school last week & they
mentioned that the colleges seeking all tests taken are interested to see if students take a test (ACT or SAT) many times (more than 3 or so?) as it is a bit of a red flag apparently. As someone mentioned the ACT allows scores to be deleted so that might be helpful to some.
Ok thanks @mmk2015
Hi guys, I’m taking the ACT for the first time in December. I’m consistently scoring 34 on practise tests, with the occasional 35.
- I tried the “Preparing for the ACT 2015-16” paper, and the pattern seems different. I’m concerned that the December administration might throw something unexpected at me
- The essay section seems radically different. How do I prepare for it?
What were you practicing with before the 2015/2016 test?
And you are correct, the essay changed in September 2015. Old writing prompts will not be of much help to you.
Dec act is also going to be my first one.
Can anyone give me advices on how to study/prep for science, reading and English? Any tips?
I can still use “real act” practice tests to practice science, reading, math, and English, right?
Thank you!!
The December ACT will also be my first time taking it. I’m already done prepping for the math section and am focusing on English this week. Do you guys think I should devote much time for the reading and science section? They don’t seem to require specific content knowledge, unlike math and english.
@hellpeveryone27 yes, use real ACT tests to prep with.
@luigi66 I would focus on English grammar rules for the English section. Taking practice reading and science tests will also help.
The best way to study for the ACT is to practice with REAL ACT tests. The 3rd edition of the Real ACT Book (Red Book) has 5 tests to get you started. They are old, but you will get a feel for most of the concepts. Then move on to released tests from 2013/2014/2015.
TIME each practice session to simulate the real test.
English 75 questions in 45 min.
Math 60 questions in 60 min.
Reading 40 questions in 35 min.
Science 40 questions in 35 min
Score your test, and then review only what you got WRONG after each practice session.
I suggest the following schedule:
Take 1 section each week night/with review for 4 nights/week.
Twice per month on a Saturday or Sunday take a full ACT test/with review.
Track your progress!
Here is a detailed sample schedule to get started, modify it to meet your needs:
Mon: English section with review
Tues: Math section with review
Wed:. Reading Section with review
Thu. Off
Fri: Science Section with review
Sat: FULL ACT with review
Sun: Off
Any suggestion for improving English and Reading score? I got 28 for both sections -_-
^practice is key. And key grammar and reading comprehension rules. They are found in any prep book. Read extensively and apply them. I know its a cliche answer and you prolly heard it many times, but i did it and got 33-34 on those sections. If you struggle with time, you can ask me. @clichescreenname
TAKING 3RD TIME, HOPING FOR A 34.
@ikim16 lol thanks for the reply. And yes I’ve heard what you said numerous times. I haven’t been able to practice as much as I would have liked to for the upcoming ACT of school… Hoping for a better score though
yeah, luckily i had the summer to study. a 28 in both sections is not far away from mid 30s. Looking at the scaled scores, i think its the difference of a few questions. Grind out the most practice tests you can, and results will follow. I think for reading, it might be tough since it’s the most stressful imo. English, i think, can be improved in a matter of days.
Prep scholar blog helped me alot in improving…i have been getting around 33 in my practice tests(past papers) but i am aiming for at least 34 bcuz that’s a threshold for good colleges…
does anyone know the curve for science for the sept-oct tests? I got 34 in September, but need 35-36 for this December one… Please help.
Math too. And reading if you know
Curve to get 35+ is:
science: miss 1-2 or less
math: miss 1-2 or less
reading: miss 1 or less
