This thread is for the ACT in June 2015. Just thought I’d make this thread as I didn’t see one already. Discuss the exam, preparation methods, scores, etc.
Best of luck everyone!
May the curve be with us.
I can’t wait till AP exams are over and then I can go ham with studying. Got a 30C in april 1st time but not very happy so retaking in june.
Does anybody know how you should study for the new science section? The format completely changed to 6 total passages and I wasted almost 2 minutes freaking out during the april one…
Does the the actual ACT seem a bit harder than it has in the past? My state had a free state-wide test for all juniors today and I thought the math and science was much harder than past exams and the red book. Anyone else think so too? Do you guys think that the one in June will also be harder?
And does the science section really have a new format for all of the next exams like what ^^ said?
@bouvardiaThe Red book is often easier than the actual tests. I took the April 18th ACT and found it harder than practice tests too
@blargenshmargen You don’t need to study differently. It’s the same content organized differently
@slimman131 good luck on it! I’m taking that test to how are you planning on studying for it?
@slimman131 same! Got those same exact books haha! I just took my first ACT today and I don’t think it went as well I had wanted… definitely going to start prepping more!
I will be rereading the Barron 36 ACT practice book. My goal is 33+
I took the nation wide high school ACT yesterday and it seem very different from past tests…
Goal: 32 but a 33+ would be awesome it’s my first test. I bought the real act prep guide and barons 36
Baron’s 36 is really good for the English section.
Edit: Sorry, never mind, I figured it out
Is 1 month enough time to get a 32 if i study every day ?
@Gatortristan I studied less than that and got a 33. It’s definitely possible.
@outlooker Should I just do practice tests and try and understand my mistakes or is the actual material in the real act book good? I’m also using barrons 36 for english
@Gatortristan I find that the Real ACT book a little easier than the actual tests. I think past released tests are better. The Barron’s 36 is really good though, especially for English.
The best way to study for the ACT is to practice with REAL ACT tests. There are 5 tests in the Red ACT Book, 3rd Edition. ACT released several tests in booklet form.
Time each practice session to simulate the real test.
English 75 questions in 45 min.
Math 60 questions in 60 min.
Reading 40 questions in 35 min.
Science 40 questions in 35 min
Score your test, and then review only what you got wrong after each practice session.
I suggest the following schedule:
Take 1 section each school night/with review for 4 nights/week.
Twice per month on a Saturday or Sunday take a full ACT test/with review.
@HereToHelpYou I still believe it would be worthwhile to review the questions you got write
how do i bring up my science. i got a 23 on the actual test in April but on all the REAL ACT from the red book i was averaging a 30!! X_X
What did you get your first ACT
@mithuun15 I got a 33
