Took the ACT, didnt have too many good feelings about it. I was hoping on sending that score instead of SAT. I feel like retaking it in December again except I dont know how well im going to do. I could send my SAT but it is not in an extermely high percentile as carnegie mellons average sat. 670+700+640 superscored for writing, math and reading. But there are also subject tests that I am taking next month. If i want to apply to school of engineering I need physics and math 2. I would take my 3rd test as the regular sat but they wont allow me to. I am unsure about how im going to do on physics and math2. I can pick up math concepts pretty easily but physics is a different story. I had physics 1, am in physics c right now but like physics 1, we are still on work and energy. Should I retake the subject tests if i get below a 700 on each? Decemeber is my last chance for subject tests, sats and the act.
BTW any tips on how to finish the ACt in time (w/2-5 min left?)
I am mainly having trouble on reading, english and science. Passages take too long to read sometimes. And when i do skim i miss out on crucial details important to the questions.
Im aiming for UT austin, A&m, Carnegie mellon, Rice, Vanderbilt
If I can get a 32 or above on the ACT i probably wouldnt have to worry about the regular SAT but I need to somehow master the format and timing within 2 months.
If you live in TX, your ACT score is only partially important - what matters is whether you’re top 8% or not, top 10% or not. Everything else is secondary.
Carnegi Mellon will expect a math 2 800 or as close to that. Don’t bother applying if you get less than 700 (unless you’re applying to the “arts” college, but I don’t think that’s what you’re talking about).
Generally speaking, subject tests should be 700+.
The prior response saying “don’t bother applying if you get less than 700” should not be taken TOO seriously, testing is not the utmost important piece of criteria.
Well, universities such as Rice and Vanderbilt look at subject tests first and consider those to be your best subjects, so, ignore them at your own risk.
…:/… Carnegie Mellon, depending on major, has virtually no admits below 700.
While it’s true testing is not the most important criterion, a 2010 superscored is going to take something “extra” to be offset (assuming 4-8 APs and a 3.75+ GPA). OP may well have that and be okay. But all parts of the application matter. It’s like trying to balance 4 plates at once. :s
OP: retake the ACT and subject tests in December, and retake the SAT in November.
