Hello, I'm going to the University of Maryland next fall, double majoring in Government/Politics and Arabic. Would you guys mind looking over my schedule and letting me know if you think it's ok? I know very little about college schedules and what's ideal so I would love some feedback before I finalize this in June.

Classes I'm taking: [ul]
[]Political Philosophy: Ancient and Modern/b
[li]Elementary Modern Standard Arabic I-II /b[/li][li]Earth's Fury: Earthquakes, Volcanoes, and Tsunami/b (taking this as my science Gen Ed)[/li][li]Honors Seminar: deciding between "Terrorism" and "Understanding US Foreign Policy Toward Afghanistan"** - leaning towards "Terrorism" (3)[/li][li]Honors 100 - just a basic intro to the school (1) [/ul][/li]**so this comes out to 16 credits, when 15 is normal. but normally people take 5 classes and i'm pretty much only taking 4, so do you think it'll be manageable? for more information i got a full ride to UMD so i'm probably one of the top students, making me think that i can handle it.

My Schedule:

Monday:
10:00-11:50 Arabic
2:00-2:50 Political Philosophy
3:30-6:50 Terrorism (if I sign up for that one)

Tuesday:
9:30-10:45 'Earth's Fury'
3:30-4:45 Honors 100

Wednesday:
10:00-11:50 Arabic
2:00-2:50 Political Philosophy
3:00-3:50 'Earth's Fury' i*

Thursday:
9:30-10:45 'Earth's Fury'
6:00-8:30 Afghanistan (if I sign up for that one)

Friday:
10:00-11:50 Arabic
1:00-1:50 Political Philosophy

So does everything look ok or is there something you think I should change or reconsider? Thanks so much for any advice you have :)

I personally think it’s fine. Arabic of course is going to take up a lot of your time since I heard it was pretty tough but I don’t think the other courses sound too hard.
BTW, Earth’s Fury and either of your two seminars sound really interesting! Jealous. :)

Do terrorism, we have an awesome terrorism studies minor. Your schedule looks pretty good too.

ps: Check out [OurUMD - Students in charge of their education | OurUMD](http://www.ourumd.com) it has a ton of reviews on professors at UMD. It also shows you the grade spread for them and their classes.

That looks manageable, for sure. The gen eds should be on the easier side for you, although don’t be suprised if they aren’t. Also, at my school, some of the one-credit freshman classes end up being more than one credit of work, I have no idea what your school is like.

You’re not in class that many hours, so expect a bunch of outside reading and work, that seminar being 3 credits probably means its a lot of work, since it only meets for 3 hours a week.

Definitely manageable. Don’t underestimate language classes, though. Even the intro ones can be more than you’d expect. Good luck!

Looks like a decently challenging freshman year schedule without being too overbearing.

Are you the one who originally wanted to take like 21 hours? If so, I’d say this is a much better schedule.

Thanks everyone, I’m glad to see that everything looks good!

I’m considering one change b/c I thought I was going to take 2 courses (1 gov and 1 gen ed) over the summer but it’s more expensive than I originally thought, so I’m just going to take the gov class - so I might take another gen ed class (maybe Islamic Civilization) instead of Political Philosophy (which most freshman take in the spring anyway). Do you think it would be ok to not take any government classes even if that’s what I’m majoring in? My honors seminar will be politics-related so I think it should all still be interesting enough.

And @augirl: haha yep that was me! I realized that when CC tells you to cool it, you really need to, so I’m going to take 4 classes and see how that goes :)

I’m a business major and didn’t take any business courses my first semester.
