I’ve been devastated by my first quarter grades this senior year. I’ve taken almost all available ap classes since grade 10. However, my calculus bc grade was a 69 first quarter. How much of an impact will this have on my college application?(applying all rd)
Current schedule: ap music theory, ap public affairs forum, honors econ, ap biology, bc calculus, suny Spanish 2, public speaking.
Current weighted gpa: 4.0
Sat score: 1540
Also would like to add that I’ve gotten b+'s to a’s on all my so classes and this is the first d grade in my whole hs career.
Obviously a D as a senior is not good. The impact will depend on the school. Get it up ASAP. Your GC may be asked for more recent grades or you may get a provisional acceptance pending a certain grade. Work on it now.
I feel for you. Many people struggle with this class. Don’t get discouraged. Your SAT score is excellent. I assume your 1st and 2nd quarter grades are averaged for the semester? Where are you applying? Go see the teacher. Is there tutoring? Extra credit? Is there a study group that could help? Try to pull at least a C for the semester.
Thank you for your criticism. I will try!
Thank you for replying, I’ve seen my teacher a couple of times but it doesn’t seem to raise my grades. If I am applying to colleges such as northeastern, nyu, Boston college, and stony brook.
Get a tutor! Do whatever is in your power to get that up to at least a C. Can you drop down to AB next semester?
You want to get that grade up to the C range at least. In terms of BC Calc – Continue to see your teacher – and do it more than once in a while. Utilize online resources such as Khan academy And see if you can get a tutor (either privately if affordable or at many schools high school honor students will tutor for free).
If you are truly not able to keep up with the material ask your guidance counselor and teacher if it is still possible to switch down to AB Calc. Note that if you drop down a level you will have to notify every college you applied to.
Yes but it will result in a withdrawl on my transcript
A Withdrawal is better than a D.
Would a c grade really make a difference?
I would like to know if ap calculus is judged upon more harshly or more leiniently. I feel like most of the point I lose on tests are careless mistakes and don’t really reflect my calculus knowledge.
Make sure to add information in the “additional information” section of the Common App explaining your difficulty and your effort in trying to improve your grade.
