Sorry for the repost but I’m still looking for opinions. Thanks.
So right now my grades are decent. I have a UC GPA of 3.65. My ACT is 28. My New Sat is 1240. My senior year course load consists of AP Physics, AP Calculus BC, AP Chemistry, AP Macroeconomics, Chinese 3 and Expository Reading and Writing. There’s an upward trend in my grades from B’s and C’s sophomore year having only an A in AP World History to A’s and only 2 B’s during my junior year. So as you can see I am pretty decent. My essays are good after weeks of editing and now they portray the image that I’ve made a change in who I am and how I’ve approached school. Do you think UC’s ask for your first language as a kind of way to help out minorities? Although they ruled out affirmative action, I find it a bit funny that they ask for this besides our ethnicity. Thank you gumbymom for responding with what my chances are but I’m looking for a direct opinion rather than statistics because there’s more to my application than just my grades despite UC’s being focused on grades. My intended major is Mathematics since it is my strong point.
Still looking for chances on UCI, UCR, UCSC, UCSB, UCD
First generation status is considered by the UC’s so that is why that ask about your first language. I agree that UC admissions are based on more than grades but EC’s and essays are subjective so difficult to determine how they will be received. Extenuating circumstances, overcoming adversity etc… will all be considered. So what is special about out since you are asking for chances but offer little other than your stats and an upward trend in grades?
You do realize that chancing threads are useless since posters are not admission officers. I can say you will get into every school on your list, but that doesn’t make it so. Have confidence in yourself, submit a great application and hope for the best.
I agree with all of the above^. Don’t rely on Chance Me threads to tell you which colleges you will get into. You could get into none of them, or you could get into all of them. What we say is not reliable, since we are not AdComms; nor is it credible since, again, we are not AdComms. Make sure your application is as strong as you think you can make it, have people review your essays, go over your Teacher Recs again to make sure you are 100% satisfied with them, tweak your activity descriptions in the ComApp…and apply.
Good luck.
