Decide for me before I just decide to stay in CC!

Okay, let's put it to a vote.

Political Science major: UCLA or Cal?

Keep in mind I live in the LA area, but will dorm either way.
UCLA also gave me a considerably better financial aid package.
I am not sure, but from what I've seen, the poli sci departments are about equal.

Better financial aid packages are great things to consider. Go for UCLA

Berkeley for name

screw the "name" go to ucla, more money, less debt in future. and ucla owns anyways. 2 birds with 1 stone

Just stay in CC, less expenses and you're already familiar with it

:D

berkeley...better school.

oh man, i'm gonna get flamed for saying this:

if you like the preppy, (mostly)conformist scene: ucla

if you like the radical, (almost)anything-goes scene: cal

but of course, $$ is $$. and you could save some of that by going to LA and putting your extra dough in a retirement fund of some sort.

Anyone here a poli sci major from either school?

I know Berkeley has the reputation for being the better school, but I'm curious to see how they compare as far as my major is concerned.

I'd really appreciate any help. This choice is driving me crazy.

ucla, close to home, better financial package

I'll pick UCLA, but your choices, UCLA and CAL, is so tempting to pick.

Anyone can pick up a book and then become a genius on a particular subject. You don't have to go to Berkeley for that. The purpose of college is to get a degree that can bring home the bacon. If you're getting offered free money, I don't know about you, but I would take it.

If the money factor isn't your biggest concern, I vote Cal. They're both world-class schools with stellar poli sci departments, but college is also about exploring new things and being outside your comfort zone! It's good to be away from home.

I would go to UCLA over Cal, but that probably has to do with me really not liking Cal's campus and loving UCLAs campus.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 U, C, L, A! Ucla! Fight Fight Fihgt!

Cal all the way!! Don't hold yourself back, go to the school that can offer you the best education. Even if UCLA offered me a full ride, I'd still go to Cal.

hahha full ride from ucla > cal any day.

ucla is up there with cal for most if not all majors besides HAAS.

I say cc :P

Both poli sci departments are equally competitive. Since you're getting a better financial package and already live in LA I think the choice is clear... but I'd go to Cal if it were my choice.

I wish to God I had applied to UCLA. I'm an English major, and Cal actually has the better reputation for their English program (#1 in the country ahead of Ivy Leagues, even), but still, UCLA is so awesome in the middle of Westwood and all. I'm also from the LA area, by the way, and since I don't know anything about Berkeley besides their English program, I think I'd choose UCLA over Berkeley.

So, if I were you, I'd say definitely choose UCLA. You're in an area you're already familiar with, and it's an extremely prestigious school. And since the 2 schools' Poli Sci programs are about equal, AND you got a better fin. aid from UCLA, JUST GO FOR IT!!

Best of luck in making your decision
