Keep in mind I live in the LA area, but will dorm either way.
UCLA also gave me a considerably better financial aid package.
I am not sure, but from what I've seen, the poli sci departments are about equal.

Anyone can pick up a book and then become a genius on a particular subject. You don't have to go to Berkeley for that. The purpose of college is to get a degree that can bring home the bacon. If you're getting offered free money, I don't know about you, but I would take it.

If the money factor isn't your biggest concern, I vote Cal. They're both world-class schools with stellar poli sci departments, but college is also about exploring new things and being outside your comfort zone! It's good to be away from home.

Cal all the way!! Don't hold yourself back, go to the school that can offer you the best education. Even if UCLA offered me a full ride, I'd still go to Cal.

Both poli sci departments are equally competitive. Since you're getting a better financial package and already live in LA I think the choice is clear... but I'd go to Cal if it were my choice.

I wish to God I had applied to UCLA. I'm an English major, and Cal actually has the better reputation for their English program (#1 in the country ahead of Ivy Leagues, even), but still, UCLA is so awesome in the middle of Westwood and all. I'm also from the LA area, by the way, and since I don't know anything about Berkeley besides their English program, I think I'd choose UCLA over Berkeley.

So, if I were you, I'd say definitely choose UCLA. You're in an area you're already familiar with, and it's an extremely prestigious school. And since the 2 schools' Poli Sci programs are about equal, AND you got a better fin. aid from UCLA, JUST GO FOR IT!!
