Decide soon or risk loosing your spot? True?

S2 is a freshman at one of our state u's. His class is the largest in school history. The deadline for housing deposit was May 1. Many who waited until the deadline (or close to it) did not get in a dorm. They were temporarily housed in off campus apt. complexes until dorm space opened up.

We sent in the $100 to hold his spot immediately upon acceptance in the Fall. Then sent in a housing deposit with his housing app. in Feb. He got in a dorm but it wasn't his first choice. The university has announced that they had 18,000 applications this year, 3,000 more than last year but would be accepting fewer freshman than last year.
