Dilemma...

I'm currently stuck in a quandry! I got into USC yesterday, which has been my first choice for years. I absolutely love the campus, the social scene, the school spirit, the amazing alumni network and I got into my major (broadcast journalism at Annenberg! HOORAY!). However, I'm still waiting to hear from 5 other schools. Should I wait to hear from the other ones or just send in my housing stuff now because I have an advantage? If I were to just send in my enrollment forms now, it would seem like a waste to apply to a bunch of other schools.

What a lot of people did last year was once they were accepted to USC, they applied for housing. In case you decide not to attend USC in the fall, you will only lose your $30 housing deposit (or at least that was the amount last year).

Our family sent in the housing deposit because it is our son's first choice school, but we need to see what it will cost us before truly signing on the dotted line. USC knows that people need to see their financial aid packages prior to making a four year commitment to them so it is fine to send in your housing deposit while waiting to review your offers from other schools. USC is accepting smart kids, so they probably expect them (and their presumably intelligent parents) to review all of their options before making final decisions.

You only loose $30, is this real?

^^^
Yes it is, this is at least the third time this is being discussed on this board in the past few days.

Thanks, I have not been paying attention. :D

Don't worry, Columbia_Student, I don't think this exact situation has been discussed here lately. It is a good question.

Yes, it is correct that (last year) you could submit the non-refundable application fee of $30 to hold your spot (you can't get a fee waiver for it). If you do cancel, you lose that $30.

If you can afford the $30, do it to get your first choice of dorms.
