<p>My wife and I have been debating whether to send the deposit in to our D's first choice school earlier or later (closer to May 1st).
I would like to wait to see if other schools may sweeten their scholarship offer enough to cause us to change our decision...
Wife thinks sending the deposit early might mean a better dorm placement for our D...
Any thoughts?</p>
<p>It depends on the college. Check with the housing dept. of your daughter’s college. Some college have first come, first serve for dorm choice. Some treat everyone the same as long as you meet the deadline.</p>
<p>Agree that it MIGHT affect your child’s housing options. That said, for our S, we waited until we were POSITIVE which U our son would attend, since we didn’t want to put deposits down in more than one place & you couldn’t get housing until after you made your deposit to hold a spot & then another deposit for housing. </p>
<p>That said, we were able to convince his U to increase his merit aid to match a competing U that was also interested in having S attend. Even tho S sent in his housing app pretty late (mid-April), he still got his 1st choice dorm (maybe it wasn’t as popular as some of the other dorms).</p>
<p>My husband and I just had this discussion yesterday.</p>
<p>Our daughter got into her first choice, also got into her second choice, got rejected from a reach, and still didn’t hear from 4 other schools. </p>
<p>She didn’t didn’t care about the one rejection; the school wasn’t really a good fit for her anyway. But, since she’s feeling pretty excited about the future, we felt there was really no down side to pulling the trigger. </p>
<p>And she doesn’t have to care about whether she is accepted or rejected anywhere else.</p>
<p>We sent the check yesterday.</p>
