Hey! So I’m relatively new to CC but I wanted to get some feedback regarding whether this potential application list was reasonable. I’m from Ohio so my safeties are Miami University and the University of Cincinnati. I am completely fine with staying in state so the rest are reaches: Case Western Reserve, Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Tech, Johns Hopkins, and Duke. I plan to major in biomed or some other biological field so hence my choices.
I also plan to apply to some other schools (probably Ivies just for the chance).
So does this early list sound good? Any recommendations? Any concerns?
Hey! Without knowing too much about your stats, I think you have a pretty good start! For me, Case Western, GT, UMich, and WashU were my “mid-tier” schools. I was comfortable with only having 4 mid-tier and 1 safety, so I was able to apply to about 11-12 reaches. It seems like you have a similar approach, but I would really make sure that you pick some schools that you see as “mid-tier” (once again, I don’t know your stats). Also, I totally support throwing your name into the ivy pool - it worked for me! Its all about your comfort level. If you are comfortable going to any of the schools on your list, including safeties, then your list is good to go
I completely agree. I didn’t really want this to turn into a “chance me” but I think I have stats (ACT scores/AP scores/courses) that will make me competitive, as well as with some summer research and extracurriculars (w/ positions). I just don’t really want to get top heavy.
