@collegedad i don’t think we have enough data for #2. but i see where you’re going with this. ah well.

Someone posted that their acceptance was priority mail. I’ve already heard of six kids in my town who’ve got their acceptances in the mail so I can only assume that nothing means a rejection.

Collegedad is just trolling,he just wants to make us feel bad…

Why don’t you guys just calm down and look online tomorrow? I never got a letter in the mail today and I live in Maryland, which is near PA. Someone else in MD said they got an actual rejection letter. Thus, some people got the letter today, some people didn’t, and there ARE rejection letters. Look online tomorrow (or is it after midnight, which is 2 hours from now? I’m not sure)

midnight. I’ll be staying up anyway doing work. might as well check

Have faith, cneogy, CM_Admission said this in a tweet: “All applicants have their letter sent by regular mail regardless of decision.”

What do you think of being waitlisted and having to pay $800 (NON-REFUNDABLE) to be on a priority waitlist? And then still not knowing what your chances are for being taken from the waitlist? Has anyone ever heard of this from other schools? And you don’t even know how many are on the waitlist. This seems like extortion somehow. Is this normal for CMU?

Marybee, the $800 fee is only if you are taken off the waitlist and admitted. It doesn’t cost anything to be on the waitlist.

Edit: At least, that’s what I’ve gathered from this thread. I haven’t gotten a letter, so I can’t say for sure. I seriously doubt CMU would force students to drop nearly a grand to be on a waitlist, though.

you only pay if you’re accepted off the waitlist

Why would you pay $800 to be accepted off the waitlist? What would the logic be there? Trying to understand this for a friend who did receive this letter today. Wouldn’t you just pay a normal deposit by whatever date they give you, if it is after the regular May 1st deadline. Or is $800 the normal deposit for CMU?

Do they tell you online your financial/merit aid award? I did all my financial aid stuff by the deadline

You would pay $800 to be accepted off the waitlist because you want to go and you have the financial means to do so. I see the $800 firstly as a check to see how committed the students are to attending, and secondly as a way to deter those who would require more financial aid.

1 more hour :D

$800 appears to be the enrollment deposit for all students…that is the amount listed on my son’s acceptance letter too

We’re coming up on the time of revelation…1 more hr…

dont…

These minutes are passing by awfully slowly.

1 acceptance, 1 rejection and 1 waitlisted so far…Why does this process have to be so painful…40 minutes to go to see the decision on CMU…Can’t wait!!!

Experientia,yes indeed,i am dying a slow and painful death…
