Does a student have to commit on April 30? or can the commitment be done on May 1?
Indecisive, I know
It can be done on May 1st, you are just risking a glitch in the system on one end or the other…pretty nerve wracking to wait that long, I am sure you know that already. Good luck getting there. In 2015, we were in that boat, paddling upstream to the very end. This year D got in her #1 choice, so April has almost been dull, but I think I was due after the storm of '15.
@CADREAMIN thank you. thinking I can call the college in case there is a problem.
I have never understood the need to wait until the very last moment…make a decision on the 30th and go celebrate.
My suggestion…just do it ASAP.
And I mean that.
We had a computer glitch with one of our kids…ended up having to fax the acceptance and mail a check overnight mail.
Don’t wait.
As someone who has read CC for a while…do not wait to the last day! Many other people are and the system get get messed up.
Unless someone is still really torn or waiting on some additional information that would change the decision then I would go ahead and do it. We committed a while back. D got into her top 2 schools and after visiting both again it was clear which one she really wanted so we went ahead and took the enrollment steps.
Both my kids dithered until around 10 pm on April 30.
As long as we can make the decision on May 1, I am okay, in the worse case, I will drive to the college to make the deposit on May 1 LOL
I need to sit down with DD to go over the pros and cons of each college
^^^May I suggest over shopping or lunch outside of the house? At least that is how we have productive conversations. For some reason my house is never like TV sitcoms, where everything is resolved in one well-articulated conversation in the kitchen or on the couch.
Don’t sweat it. Take the time your family needs. You can always call the school if there is a glitch. It’s really not a big deal to wait until 5/1.
We did not sit down with our kids to go over pros and cons. We did that before they sent applications in.
Once the acceptances were in…we took a giant step back…giant…and let our kids make the choice. We only provided input if the asked.
Hoping your kiddo makes her decision ASAP. In my opinion…stretching it out…not necessary.
Really…I totally agree with you Thumper and disagree with you Dioschicos…there simply no reason to wait until the last moment on the last day. These days kids can spend a year and a half or more thinking and researching colleges and generally have the list down to just a couple if they are lucky that are financially, geographically OK, acceptances in hand and fits (you don’t apply where you don’t fit right?) so it shouldn’t take to D Day to make a decision. If you’ve got a kid dithering about today, my advice is to tell them tomorrow at noon and set the deadline for them LOL and hope you can deposit on-line. Once you have the acceptance in hand and the financials in hand there is simply no reason to drag it out any longer and everything to gain by making a decision, depositing and moving on with the last senior activities.
It is all personal preference and decision making style, is it not? At this point, it’s only a few more days, so why would that even matter if it makes someone else comfortable with the decision they reach?
It’s funny how people don’t want parents to help make the decision for the student or lead them through it but they do want parents to “set the deadline” (some artificial deadline by the way) when a kid is perceived to be “dithering about”. To me, that is unnecessarily controlling.
“everything to gain by making a decision”
What’s really going to be gained in a couple days, truly? I doubt any student is spending every second on it and whiling away the hours locked in their room thinking about nothing else.
If someone needs until May 1st, that’s fine. There are no consequences, their acceptance won’t be revoked.
I repeat, it’s a personal decision making style. The student knows they have until May 1, so step away and let them be. I just find it curious that people feel so strongly that a few days really matter. No harm, no foul. Deadlines are deadlines for a reason.
thank you for the input. It is difficult as kids’ needs are different.
My daughter is fairly certain where she wants to go but hasn’t committed yet. I’m making her do it tomorrow, the 30th. Wish it was done already.
Many wait cus some schools have been late to get back at them but if you already know which school youre going to dont wait get it done with and enjoy the rest of the month good luck
Has everyone’s kids deposited at their schools or do we still have last minute holdouts?
