Decision Dilemma -- Ross & Marshall

After visiting both USC and UofM, I realized they were the only schools I’d love going to. Note that I currently attend a school adjacent to USC and live in 30 minutes away. Luckily, I was admitted into both of their business programs. At first, I was completely leaning towards Ross because of its stellar education and the chance to leave the state for several years. However, I fortunately received a scholarship that takes off nearly 80% of my tuition at USC. I’ve distanced my decision from the social aspects of the two colleges (although I love USC’s) to look at what I’d benefit more from in the future. These are my questions:

-will my education be drastically better (and more beneficial) for a career in finance, hopefully entrepreneurial, at Ross?
-do the long term benefits of Michigan Ross (opportunity cost of going to USC) outweigh the large scholarship at USC?

Really it comes down to costs vs. education… Will the cost of tuition for Michigan ultimately be worth it, or not?

Opposite scenario:
I know one student that going to Michigan who is only 25 minutes from her home.
She went to Italy to study/research after her Freshman Year, then she went to do a East Coast Choir Tour and also went to Japan after her Sophomore year, and she is planning to go to both Costa Rica and India this Summer. These were all U of M sponsored trips were she was able to get funding. Out of pocket costs were not that great.

Bottom Line:
Just because you go to a “backyard school” does not mean that you have to stay in your backyard for the next 4 years.

If USC has similar opportunities to go somewhere else, that could be an option for you.

A business major should be able to figure out the return on investment…are not these both top business schools? Why on earth would you not take the cheaper one?
