Decision Notification Date?

^^ Probably URMs and recruited athletes, and the occasional unhooked applicant.

Okay…so I got wait-listed to Vanderbilt. Should I even be holding my breath for Duke?

^Don’t give up hope! Duke and Vanderbilt have about the same acceptance rate this year (15%) and college admissions are so random these days. For example, I know someone who was accepted into MIT and Stanford but got flat-out rejected by Duke…I’m sure if you search the threads, you’ll find many more strange cases.

I know someone on these boards that was accepted to >20 schools, including HYPSMC/ some other ivies and top 20 schools-- except he was waitlisted at Duke.
The person got off the waitlist and decided to go there instead of his second choice, Princeton.

afterthought: the poster actually may have been rejected by Stanford, but still, you get the point

@collegebeth: I’m in exactly the same boat. So I’m hoping that it means nothing, or better yet, that it means we weren’t a good ‘fit’ for Vandy (which honestly I’m not), but a perfect one for Duke :)

@keellota: you must be talking about Anonymous93 :)

@collegebeth, You definitely have a chance! I was waitlisted from Vandy as well, and I’m hoping for the best with my Duke application. They’re both very selective schools so don’t use your Vandy decision as an indicator for your Duke decision :)

I was just about to say that, and I thought it was a she?

@dalipaints and massgirl92, sorry about vanderbilt! but hopefully we get into duke then! :)

Anonymous93 is a girl
We hang out all the time at Duke
And she’s never regretted her decision (nor have I)

Come and have the best 4 years of your life

Yep, that’s her! haha

Ugh, Duke is probably my top choice… but Vandy full ride vs Duke no financial aid (I’m positive)… o.O

I got wait-listed at Vandy, too. And flat out rejected by Northwestern. And then got into Georgetown. (woo!) So my conclusion: the whole college process is just crazy  After some point, I think it’s just a lottery, and seriously anything can happen. I’m waiting for Duke, too! It was originally my first choice, so fingers crossed, but I seriously couldn’t be happier about GU.

@keellota- a full ride at Vandy or a full-tuition merit scholarship?

@cjester I’m pretty sure keellota was talking about a full-tuition merit scholarship as Duke is supposedly more generous than Vandy in terms of financial aid.

And I can feel a lot of you here. I got waitlisted by Northwestern and straight out rejected at Vandy (since I’m an international asking for financial aid, I suppose). I’m hoping for the best on 30th as I didn’t apply for FA at Duke.

I’ve also been waitlisted at Vandy but I showed absolutely no interest and put a lot of effort into my Duke application so I’m hoping for some good news.

@cjester
yeah, the CV full-tuition. but I live in TN and our state gives $5k/yr for certain GPA and test scores, Vandy gives $2k/year for national merit, and I’ll probably have this other $6k/year scholarship from the state that can only be used in TN

essentially, full ride.

wow, that’s fantastic. I still regret not applying for Vandy’s merit scholarships :/

cjester, keellota, thankyou4flying, mathematicism, wongtontong, Goldowl, massgirl92, swimstar, cornetking222… and all my CC friends.

I hope you all hear good news from Duke!

@20more, thank you so much  I wish the best of luck to everyone as well. I hope we are jumping with joy at the decision on our screen at 6 p.m. tomorrow!

@20more: Thanks so much. You’re amazing and I genuinely hope you receive good news tomorrow:)
