Decision Time, I guess . . .

Small liberal arts college or huge renowned university?

I see the benefits of each. I can't decide between Lawrence University in Appleton Wisconsin and UW Madison in . . . well, Madison. I have visited both and enjoyed both visits, and now it is time to choose.

Any insight?

This is just my personal experience, but im doing 1 year at a small liberal arts school, then transferring to a state uni in the Fall. I found the smaller campus to be more limiting. Once you saw one part of the campus, that was literally it. I like a bigger, more parklike feel to the campus.

The people at my LAC are also very cliquey. I suppose that if you fall into one of those cliques you are okay, but if not then it kinda sucks.

The biggest reason for transferring was the program I want is not offered. End of story.

This is just my experience though

I don’t know about Lawrence, but Madison is AMAZING. I think it’s the best place in the world. If you think you might enjoy it, I’d say give it a try. I’m deliriously happy here and most people I know are too. Everything about the school is top-notch, you’ll have so much fun, learn a lot inside the classroom and out, and graduate with a degree that will be highly respected.

Just my two cents  I’m sure Lawrence is a good school though. You need to decide which environment you prefer; all I can say is if you pick Madison I doubt you’ll be disappointed :D

Thanks for the advice/ opinions. This is going to be a tough decision. I have a visit at Lawrence in a week and I plan to go back to Madison for an overnight.

Lawrence was on my top choices, but then I decided Wisconsin was not for me, so I may be a bit biased here. I suggest you go to Lawrence, because you will get more attention from professors, so to speak. Have you read the section on Lawrence on Colleges That Change Lives?

Yeah, I have. It sounds great. I’ve visited both schools and have second visits coming in the next few weeks.

They’re both good schools, so at least you can’t make a bad choice. My saxophone professor attended Lawrence for her undergraduate and said she loved it. It really just comes down to personal preference, so I hope your visits will provide that clarity for you.

Good luck with your choice!

Thanks! :D
