@penelopepitztop – Sorry for the confusion; no, that’s sent to a larger group of applicants. Still working on admissions decisions. Hang in there!

Does anyone know if there is any rhyme or reason to the order decisions are released? Because I thought it was in order of applications received but I submitted in October and people on CC have heard back already after submitting in January. Is it just completely random? Or do they do the top students first and then come back to less top applicants? Just curious!
I was accepted this morning as of 2am, but the New Students folder showed up last night. SAT: 1780, ACT:27 GPA: 89.98 (Weighted). My grades aren’t the strongest, but I have an amazing letter of recommendation from a teacher who is respected across the nation and a strong essay. Also, I am the president of our school’s GSA, publicly speak at the school as a mental health/LGBT advocate, have attended Latin competitions at SBU, visit the school at least once a year for the past 4 years, am a percussionist in the marching band, and various other things that I feel make me stand out as a candidate. I was worried that I wouldn’t be accepted because I didn’t think my grades were strong enough, but I was pleased to see that I was wrong! SBU is my top choice and is only 45 minutes away from home, so I am excited to attend. I am a psychology major with a pre med track, so this school is perfect for me.
Accepted! History Major
SAT: 1900 ACT: 29 GPA: 101 (Weighted)
My Accepted Students folder showed up over a month ago and the acceptance just showed up today, and I applied in October! So for anyone who’s stressing over the order of acceptances posted, don’t sweat it!
Has anyone got accepted for Engineering major?
@HelloEveryone27 yes. I have been accepted directly to the BME major
Hi, Chris. How many of the acceptances are out already. When is the next batch coming out? @sbuadmissions
D accepted today. Psych major. Applied around 12/29. SAT 1830, excellent ECs. Top ranking public HS.
@HelloEveryone27 Yes, I too have been directly accepted into the Biomedical Engineering major.
Edit: Deleted Repeated Post
Yup, I got matriculated as an EE major.
Just note that being accepted to SBU doesn’t mean the same thing as being accepted into a major. They usually send a letter like this if you successfully get admitted directly into a major:
@sbuadmissions How exactly does Stony Brook admissions timing work? After reading this thread, it looks like admission is rolling. Some were accepted early January, some late January. I don’t see EA or ED options on the website. My junior S will apply this fall. If he applies earlier (October/November) are his chances better? Hoping for Honors College or University Scholars.
@STEM2017 There is no early process. There is simply a January 15th deadline. I got accepted in the first patch of admissions, prior to that date on January 7th. Apply as early as possible to get your decision earlier, but his chances are the same no matter when he submits. It seems that some applied late and have gotten accepted already, but it is in his best interest to apply early. Either way, he will not hear about different programs until March.
For reference, I applied late October.
can someone chance me, i haven’t heard back from them yet, 25 ACT, 93.8 average weighted, major biology, very involved in school and clubs and varsity sports, business club achievements, 2 subject honor societies. Other things too but I really wanted to get into this school. I know my act is really weak and bio is a popular major at this school. Do any of you guys think i have a shot? Maybe they haven’t let me know yet because a lot of people are interested in bio? I don’t know I just really wanted to get into this school. If anyone could chance me I’d appreciate it
I applied december 18th btw
class rank 82/301
@ericojaybailes Are you in state?
On my acceptance letter it only said I am accepted to the CAS as a matriculation undergraduate, it didn’t specifically say the major. However, on solar’s acceptance page my “program” showed the major I applied for. Does this mean I am directly admitted or not?
Accepted as an OOS applicant!
Son admitted
