Decisions Are Posted!

Aid. :( Mt. Holyoke gave me reaaaally bad aid; now I have to wait for Smith's, I guess.

Define "really bad"?

They want me to pay $40,000 a year and my family makes less than that in a year. :|

I'm in! Smith is really a top choice for me, but I need to see where else takes me.

I'm in as well! But, like everyone here, I need to wait it out for the aid before I get too excited. I got into MHC with a $20,000 scholarship + an honors tutorial, etc. so that may be a determining factor, as I didn't get a STRIDE.

Still, though! I got into Smith!

Woot! Accepted! but can't afford it so hmm maybe MHC will be better with aid.

@keai: Did you get fin aid already?! Damn. I really want mine, since that's pretty much what will determine if I go to Smith or not...

Accepted!!! Yay!

I got in too!!!!!!

I am SO EXCITED! I can't wait to get the financial aid letter.

ajlangs,

I guess FA info will be in the mail. It said the packet should arrive by March 27. Maybe earlier, since I'm intl. Fingers crossed...

Congrats to you all! Anyone interested in posting stats to aid us future applicants? It would be greatly appreciated!

Accepted
High School: Private
High School Type: sends many grads to top schools
GPA - Unweighted: 3.58
SAT I Math: 680
SAT I Critical Reading: 800
SAT I Writing: 800
ACT: 32 (don't think I sent this though)
SAT II Literature: 750
SAT II Math Level 1 (IC): 680
ECs: I've been very dedicated to choir and voice since ~5th grade. I've been in one college opera and was a very active member of my school's FIRST robotics team last year.

Essay: I wrote about my battles with depression/mental illness and how I hope to study philosophy and cognitive neuroscience to teach/help others and hopefully reduce societal stigma of mental illness.

Other: I've only taken 2 APs and 1 honors language course, but that's because I will have only completed by junior year. I'm technically going to be a high school dropout, and will skip my senior year and instead go to college.

Hope that helps! I'm not sure if my data is as useful because of my unusual situation. Personally, I'm still kind of stunned that I was accepted, but very, very happy.

Whoa, excellent scores and I bet that essay floored them...
I'd post mine but I'm international so the situation is probably different...

ACCEPTED!

High School: Public in Texas, but, all things considered, a good school
Ethnicity: White/Jewish
GPA (UW): 3.67
Course Load: I'm full IB Diploma (as well as AP; at my school, every IB class means you get to take the AP exam for it as well; fun times); my schedule isn't very diverse due to IB requirements (prior to Diploma I did IBMYP as well), but I've taken six years of French, two of Spanish, and have been involved in both orchestra and newspaper for a l-o-n-g time (heh)
SAT (M:CR:W): 2080 (630:750:700)
SAT IIs: Took over 5; they ranged but were around 700+, for the most part
ACT: 29 (ARGH. I blame the math section!)
APs: All 5's (+ taking 4-5 more this year)
IB: 5 Psych SL, taking 3 HLs (French, English, History) this year and 2 SLs (Math, Biology)
ECs: Editor-in-Chief of school newspaper (was previously Photo Editor, photographer, and staff writer), 3rd chair violin in orchestra, President of a science club whose name I can't give you because its unique to my school (=P), Historian of both Orchestra and French Club, and I'm in a few other clubs as well

Outside of school I'm a freelance photographer and I do a lot of work shooting concerts. I also volunteer at my local Mexican American Cultural Arts Center (I'm 100% white, but I like the Center a lot) and the rest of my time I allocate to political campaigns. I gave up half my junior year to campaign for Hillary Clinton, and I don't regret that decision one bit, regardless of the outcome. :) In all, I'm a fairly mediocre applicant numbers-wise, so I'm incredibly grateful for Smith having confidence in me! It's a great school. =D

Congratulations to everyone!

I got into Smith with a STRIDE, which is absolutely awesome! :) Don't know how the FA will work out though--the STRIDE is a lot of money, but I'm not sure if they'll award me anything for need. If MHC's FA is anything to go by, I won't get anything (although I got a scholarship there, too!).

My stats:
GPA: 98.1 (through jr year)
Class Rank: 1/183
SAT I: CR 720, M 670, W 740 (2130)
SAT II: Math I 690, World History 710, English Lit 740, US History 800
APs: US History 5, AP Lang&Comp 5; this year taking AP Calc AB, AP Physics, AP Literature

ECs: Managing Editor of my school paper for 2 years, first violin in regional youth orchestra for 4 years (concertmaster for 2), school a cappella group (by-audition-only) for 4 years (this year I'm group director), Amnesty International, NHS, peer tutoring, church youth group...other stuff I'm probably forgetting...

I wrote my essay about this camping experience I had and how I saw it connect to a quote from Thoreau that I love. Recs came from my APUSH and AP Lang teachers from last year, both probably excellent (I hope). And I had a great interview at Smith.

Congrats to all of you. Usually there's a section on Bannerweb under student information that is for financial aid and you can probably look there to see if you got a pell grant or something. The detailed aid packages will be in your mailed packets though.

I can't see anything about my aid package online. :( I guess I'll have to wait for the packet...

Yeah, same. :[ I'm thinking mine will come Monday or Tuesday...uggh. I'm so spoiled with email--snail mail is sloooow!

I can't see anything either... :-(
Oh well, I've already made peace with the fact that March-April is about losing sleep and growing gray hair...

I got a Pell Grant! =D
