I know this might sound stupid, but if I got into Caltech, MIT, and Berkeley, how worried should I be about Chicago?

I’m asking because the first two are tech schools, and one is a state school, so I don’t know if the admissions committees will be looking for completely different things.

I’ve gotten into UCLA and I’m hearing from my safety, UW, probably tomorrow. But Chicago is almost on the top of my list, and godddd I’m so nervous to actually hear from a school I care about.

The thing that sucks is Chicago doesn’t take into consideration the writing section of the SAT. I have a 770 in CR, but a freaking 680 in math (and I’m a mix of the two over-represented races.) It sort of evens out because I have a 770 in writing…except THEY WON’T SEE MY 770!!! -____- Sorry, haha. Still haven’t gotten over that. And my essays are subpar compared to the ones I’ve read on CC. Gahhh. Why wasn’t I more creative on my essays? Stupid, stupid me. This is painful. I need to know so I can stop beating myself up inside for everything wrong about my application.

Chicago does take your writing score into consideration, only to a minimal degree. It’s considered ‘supplemental’ or something like that–or maybe I’m wrong? I remember reading something to that effect on the U of C website.

I, too, did well on the W section (800), but my M+CR score is 1550, which is still good… and if it’s not good enough, then it’s just not good enough. There’s no point in fretting over these things now.

Yea… I mean, I’ve seen a fair number of people get into Chicago with 32 ACTs / lower 1400s on the SAT (out of 1600)… it is not all about numbers. Plus, my high school is like 7/7 over the past few years with Chicago, and my GPA is higher than most of the people who’ve gotten in.

Wow, that’s impressive, IV! No one at my school has gotten into Chicago. Actually, I was the first person to even get into UCLA. There’s only ever been one student who went to an ivy league, granted our school is only 7 years old.

But ah well – we’ll all know in less than 72 hours. :)

Yeah, my school’s valedictorian and I are the only two who applied to Chicago. We go to a smaller public school in the area. He was deferred but was accepted when he signed to their wrestling team (Chicago and a wrestling team… WHAT?), and I was deferred for other reasons, I suppose. Normally only one person from my school makes it to Chicago per year, so I’m really not expecting too much.
I think my essays were the best I’ve ever written, and I’m much more involved than the valedictorian in terms of ECs, leadership, and awards. I even sent in some creative writing of mine. However, my stats aren’t that remarkable. I got a 35 on the English and 32 on the Reading portions of the ACT, but a 26 in Math and 25 in Science don’t look that great. My GPA is a 3.9 UW, and I’m taking 3 AP classes out of the 5 that my school offers for only seniors (which sucks big time). I’m insanely nervous.

I’m an international applicant, and to be frank, I hadn’t even heard of UChicago interviews until I read this thread. They didn’t send me a mail requesting an interview, unlike all the other colleges I applied to, so was I expected to request for one myself?

There may be a very tiny, slight disadvantage of not having an interview, but it definitely will not count you out. I know many people here who did not have an interview (who ended up coming here – so, yes, they got in). Many people who ask for an interview don’t end up getting one as there are only so many alumni willing to interview that they can’t match everyone applicant up with one.
