is it a smart idea?/does it work?

how hard is it to switch to the major I want, say, biology, sports med, or premed?

which majors are the most obscure if it is?

I wouldn’t recommend it. I’ve heard of people doing that for schools with sub 8% acceptance rates (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford); when it’s THAT competitive, you need every advantage you can get.

Pepperdine seems to fluctuate between a high 20% and mid 30% acceptance rate, meaning you should be able to get in by just working hard in high school.

Long story short: it might help your chances of getting in by declaring an obscure major, but you shouldn’t need to.
