Declining online

I can't find where to decline admission online? Can someone give me a link?

You can just not pay the admission deposit. I don’t think they have a waitlist like UF so you won’t be freeing up any spots.

But if you want, you can email admissions@admin.fsu.edu

Thanks. I’ll send the email.

FSU does indeed have a wait list. Declining promptly would be courteous.

Yes indeed there is a waitlist, and you should call or send an email.

so, let me get this straight. you’re declining your admission into FSU,Carnegie Mellon, Auburn, UofChi, UofPA, and John Hopkins? What school did you get into?

^ don’t forget UF. I think he said he was going to UCF.

Declining all those schools for UCF? Seriously? :</p>

They offer a lot of money for National Merit Program awardees. I was tempted too…

I could understand opting for UCF over FSU and Auburn, but UPENN!

If I could go to any Ivy League school, it would be Upenn. Philadelphia is amazing.

Come on man!

Picking UCF.

Some schools would have taken a miracle to attend from a cost perspective. (I applied anyway just (a) see if a miracle would happen and (b) see where I ranked against my peers.)

Auburn was SUPER generous but there was a potential cost component there as well.

I didn’t feel like there was enough “separation” between UCF, UF, and FSU to compel me to choose one UF or FSU (which gave really crappy scholarship money) over UCF. I’m really comfortable with UCF and the UCF money will put me in good shape to pay for grad school without having debt as a result of my undergrad degree.

What do you intend to study?

Chemistry.

FSU was compelling as far as their chemistry department is concerned. And I will certainly bear that in mind come grad school.

That’s cool. Good luck.

Oh but I’m confused as to why you said FSU offered crappy scholarship money. You know there’s a $24,000 scholarship for National Merit Finalists, right? Of course that’s still half of what UCF offers, but it’s not as bad as UF.

D1 was a biochem major and had a superior experience performing her chemical research in the [Mag Lab](http://www.magnet.fsu.edu/) and also graduated [Phi Beta Kappa](http://pbk.fsu.edu/). Med school or grad school opportunities are enhanced with PBK membership, which is widely recognized.

Neither is available at UCF.

In general, I post get the best education for the least expense. While money is predictably compelling, you apparently had (or maybe still have) some options and chose the bucks over the chance for greater academic opportunities. For this degree I’d have selected the [FSU Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry](http://www.chem.fsu.edu/) or UF (in that order) as a better balance of excellence versus cost.

Good luck.

Joe,

I’ve seen a number of your posts and it appears as if you’ve put a lot of thought in this. You can (and will) get a good education at UCF. Just remember to keep your grades up so that you have a shot at the best grads schools.

Good luck and congratulations with the scholarships!

Thanks LTG.

And you’re right Dnerd, FSU’s scholarship isn’t “crappy.” I lumped FSU in with UF and that was wrong. FSU’s scholarship is actually pretty good. UF’s is truly crappy. I don’t know why, but FSU just felt a little bit like an afterthought. They never really engaged me during the process the way other schools reached out, so it was always just kind of “there.” I actually liked being on campus at FSU. It was really nice.

parents2noles, we’ve exchanged messages regarding UCF vs. other schools and I’ve appreciated your input. Thanks.

Glad to help; this is the kind of faculty FSU offers in this area: [Florida State News and Events](Florida State News and Events) Chemistry and physics at FSU are strengths.

Whatever your decision may be, I wish you best of luck
