Hi, I live in texas and applied to Univ. of Florida and Florida State Univ. Last week UFL sent me a letter saying that i had been waitlisted and that they would reconsider me in May. I was accepted to FSU though. I really want to go to florida since my family lives there, however, I was hoping I would be accepted to UFl since they appear to have a better medicine program and is overall more prestigious. At this point, with Ap tests coming up and a so much to study for, i feel exhausted and , honestly, am not willing to do the whole progress report and recampaigning in order to reverse the waitlisted status. Therefore, does anyone know if it would be easier to transfer to UFL after two years, assuming that my academic performance is abover the average during these 2 years at FSU? Also, is it possible to be accepted from the waitlist without sending any additional material to the institution, just by waiting? lastly, does anyone know khow many students were drawn from the waitlist last year for UFL?

I guess going to FSU for the undergraduate studies wouldn't be so terrible after all.It is just that recently i have heard bad things about FSU being merely a party college with little academic efficiency.

I would appreciate if someone could help me with those questions.

Ps: I was an average student in high school and current average is 90.40.
SATs also within both colleges' average scores.

This is my first post on this site (I just registered) so I'm not particularly knowledgable about college in general; however, I do live in Florida so I've heard a lot about both schools and I've been to the FSU campus.

From what I know UF is a big party school with ~60 frats and sororities and large parties on football game saturdays. FSU might be too, but that area (Northern Florida) is more conservative so I'm not so sure.

Either way, you can always avoid what you dislike--that is, the parties, and focus on academics. I can assure you FSU is 2nd best in Florida (and somewhere about 100 on US News and World Report) for a reason, so I wouldn't worry too much about it not living up to its reputation.

Yea FSU is much more known of a party school than UF..but i know in the state of florida you are gauranteed(?) admission to a state university if you earn an associate from a community college..so I dont think it will be much of an issue coming from another university. Your best bet is to apply ED so you have a higher chance of being accepted, because you will get accepted to a school but not necessarily to the university of your choice(but I havent heard of cases of that happening)

you are guaranteed admission to a state university if you have an associate degree. however, keep in mind that this just means you have to be accepted at one, and it could be a really crappy one.

If you really want to go to UF, I would recommend doing all you can to get off the waitlist. I know how crappy the end of your senior year is in terms of getting motivated, but you might be regretting it later if you don't do the work now and have to try and transfer.

That said, FSU is not a horrible school academically. If you are planning on going to graduate (I'm guessing medical?) school anyway, it's not going to kill you to go to FSU over UF as long as you make the best of your opportunities and work hard.

Thank you very much steve, and the others. I am really glad i posted here. I am not sure if i have the energy to do the whole waitlist reversal process. I have to study for 2 AP tests that are coming up, and i am also self studying a foreign language for which i have to take a state test in june. I wasn't expecting to be accepted to UF considering my late application and average SAT score ( the batteries of the calculator ran out and i had to deal with the last two math sections withoit it, which slowed me down drastically). I am planning on taking the SAT for a second time in June in the hope that a better score will improve my chances for a smooth transfer to UF later.I am confident that with some more preparation i can raise my score by 200 points and I will be living in FLorida then, which i suppose will help me since i heard about 95% of the student body at UF is from the state.

Does anyone know if raising the SAT score would help, or improve, my chances at being accepted as a trasfer student, or does it not matter?

Anyways, thank you for your help.

Also, i am sure that if i end up going to FSU, i will make the most out of the experience and work my best to achieve high marks, etc...

frasifrasi - improving your test scores can NEVER hurt. Plus the fact that you are making an effort in the right direction is worth it too. I think the others above have answered the questions re value of the schools. You have to make the decision if you want to double work to get the waitlist set aside but if not well then maybe you will find you will be happy at FSU at least initially.
