Hey everyone! I'm Christen. I've been toying with the prospect of boarding school for quite a while and now that I have my heart set on it, my family and I are determined to make it happen. I'm in the 9th grade (14 as of August) and I still haven't decided weather to repeat or not. I also am only allowed to apply to schools on the east coast and are less than 4 hours away from south CT when driving. I'd just like to know whether or not I have chances of getting into the places I've decided to apply to. Grade wise, I get A's. Usually low A's high B's like 88s-94s. On my SSAT I got 80 Verbal, 94 Math, and 84 Reading. I'm taking them for a second time in November. I'm on JV swim team. I'm trying out for high school basketball and I coach Parks and Rec. Basketball. I love to cook. I have ALOT of community service (over 30 hours). I write song lyrics and I have a decent voice to sing them with. I have really high ERB scores because according to most adults I have an aptitude for writing.

Sorry to bore you to tears but I appreciate it a bunch!

Applying to:
Loomis Chaffee**
St. Georges**
Blair
Pomfret
Miss Porters
Emma Willard?
Miss Pomfret
Deefield
Westminster?

Question marks are undecided, stars are favorites, and all the others are just as great =)

Sorry to make you want to beat yourself against your computer monitor to numb the pain of this incredibly boring rant but... chances please!! This is just an intro post, I expect to be on here a while longer!!

Hi, I'm Livy and I'm currently a freshman at Choate Rosemary Hall. :) A lot of schools you are applying to are in the same league at Choate, and it's really a great school! I recommend you check it out.

Read a board I talked a lot on - "Specific Questions about Choate", or just PM me for more questions. :)

I realize that you want chances. I cannot predict what your chances are. However, I think the profile you gave would be attractive to Blair. Good luck!

Application Period - well, I did Choate's online, so I spent about only a few days writing the essays, because my mom wanted me to finish them about two weeks before we had to turn them in, so I sent them in two weeks ahead of time. Other things - my teachers wrote the rec. letters over Xmas break, and then that's about it. I started being interested in Choate in spring of 7th grade, so I ordered the viewbook early 8th grade.

The earlier the interview appointments are made the more flexibility you have. Reminder to try and save your favorites for the last interviews. Your list can always change after the tours / interview but personally think your choices and preferences are great. As for repeating, let them mention that but I don't believe it's necessary. Good luck!

My daughter is a current 9th grader at Pomfret. Happy to answer any questions you have. We love it and my daughter chose it over many more well known schools. Generally I would say your grades and SSATs are in the zone they need to be. One potential negative if swimming is important to you is that Pomfret does not have swimming.
