@dracollavenore Jewish bread is flat, I believe the specific type is Pita. I should have said roti instead. The Indian flatbread.
@Wildermind ? Should’ve seen that coming ? Anyway, not wanting to detract from the gender based issues we’re discussing, I’m curious as to what labour positions you’re interested in at Deep Springs. I think we get to try everythig if we want but I’m most attracted to Cowboy, Dairy or Chef.
@dracollavenore @Wildermind i think you might be right about some of that, but a group tending to like a certain thing more is a horrible way to base society. More women may want to be a social worker then men, but that doesn’t mean men shouldn’t be social workers. There are women who prefer stem and men who prefer more interpersonal jobs. Free choice with that will always be best, bc then the exceptions can chose what they want to do. From what I’ve read from Jordan Peterson, he thinks all women should be mothers/ have only “people based” jobs, and I think forcing ppl to do that isn’t good for society. We should just let kids develop as they will(with moral guidance obviously) and see what they want to do. If you are right, you’ve lost nothing, and if you are wrong, ppl will be happier then they would have been being forced into something they didn’t want
Also I’m most interested in cowboy and carpenter, but I don’t want to think to much bc then I’ll be more upset about not getting in
@nightvale42 I feel like we might have had some sort of miscommunication. Just to clear the air, I don’t expect people to do anything and I strongly agree with you about free choice. What I am trying to say is that statistics just show a tendency for men and women to be attracted to certain career fields and i believe a reason for that is biological. Nonetheless, if I’ve learned anything in science it’s that there are exceptions. Rules will be broken, trends will be proven false. To clarify, I agree with you about free will and I also agree with Peterson’s statistics - I never said I agree with him as a person. I may sound overly defensive but as much as I love a heated debate, I want us all to be friends here and we should never sacrifice friendship over a misunderstanding. How about we just move on?
@nightvale42 come on! Be positive! Besides even if we don’t get in, a bit of self reflection is always good. What attracts you about being a cowboy? What about being a carpenter?
@dracollavenore sorry if this read as anger, I just really enjoy debating and I do want to be friends with you. Arguments are hard in text based chats bc there is so much potential for misinterpretation.
@dracollavenore I will prefer to to kitchen duty or work with animals. Yes I fall into the category of females who avoid hard labor, heavy lifting and stuff. It is not in me, I did not grow up a rural era like my mother did. Life there is so hardcore, no electricity, a borehole miles away, farming.
@nightvale42 You should watch more of his videos. He never says people should stick to a certain job based on their gender.
@nightvale42 I 100% agree and it’s nice to see I’ve found another friend who’s interested in debate. Say, if we do get into to Deep Springs we should definitely have a mini competition!
@dracollavenore someone said statistics are facts that offend people >:) @nightvale42 try to use emoji’s :ar!
@Wildermind ? it’s hard to imagine we agree on so much yet almost have opposite views to rural life. I think the modest style of Deep Springs is quite endearing. I understand where you’re coming from but for me everything is about new experiences and as strange as it is, my comfort zone is stepping out of my comfort zone. What a paradox ?
@dracollavenore @nightvale42 it is so hard to find people who wants to have a real conversation. These days you get blocked left right and center 8-|
@Wildermind ?♂️ Really? How can stats be offensive? Anyway… how do you get those animated emojis? Mine are all stationary.
@Wildermind I know! Everyone is too self conscious with this ‘Woke’ culture. I swear, sometimes I feel that I was born in a different age but it’s great talking with you guys! You have really made my day! ?
@dracollavenore . Are you using your keypad or the sight? If you are not using the sight then the emojis are below the magnifying glass to the extreme left.
:D/ Yeah! @Wildermind :)>- Thanks!
@dracollavenore it is great talking to you guys too @nightvale42. Being WOKE is why I left facebook. L-)
@Wildermind good idea!? I’m the opposite, a girl who love doing physical work. If I don’t go to college I’m going to try to get a job as nps ranger or some other outdoors thing. Also ive read quite a few interviews with Peterson and he has said quite a few things about women needing to go back to the home. Those might be old though, I can’t watch a video bc I’m at school rn but do you have a more recent interview?
@dracollavenore do you do debate competitively? The culture of competitive debate is awful, especially for cx debate, but it’s really fun! I’d also be stepping out of my comfort zone at deep springs, I’ve lived in the city my whole life although I do hike and help on a farm a bit most summers
@dracollavenore @Wildermind I’m enjoying talking to y’all to! It would be fun to meet you, I hope we will eventually!
@nightvale42 I haven’t done debate competitively since I was about 13, so that’s about five years now. When I did it the culture was more intellectual and we were naïve (some still say I am) but normally I debate in the classroom in a more friendly manner. For example, there might be something wrong in the syllabus - CIE A Levels are known for spreading white lies - and we’ll debate whether or not we should write the correct answer instead. Basically, the book says the solubility of sulfates decrease down the group due to atomic radius and charge density but at university you will realise that that is complete nonesense. In essence, we debate whether or not it’s petty to refuse to right the wrong answer to get the mark in an exam. So far we’re in agreement that we should just write whatever the examiner wants, however, I feel dirty when I write it because I’m lying to get a good grade. I know I’m supposed to look to the future but I feel that if I’m oppressed into writing a wrong answer to gain a good grade now, what other nonsensical rules will I have to abide by in the future?
@Wildermind @nightvale42 if we get into Deep Springs’ second round, let’s all agree to choose the same interview dates. I’m thinking late February because I need to book plane tickets from China and I can’t afford to pay for last minute air fares, plus I’ve got exams in January.
