Just got a call from an unknown number, but it turned out to be an advertisement. I was SO MAD

SO STRESSFUL!
I thought that i got a call, but it was a call from other university that i’d applied…
So, so far, we need to wait until tomorrow…? or are we deferred?! i cannot wait anymore!!

Honestly, I think last year they got called by 12/9. But if you think about it, they reject over 80% of the students during this first round. wow.

You’re really scaring me.

sorry I think I’m just going crazy with all this stress and exams.

So who is going to give them a call?

That’d be so awkward if they were like “We already called all the people who got into the second round. You should receive your rejection letter in the mail soon. Merry Christmas.” My sarcasm is getting out of control. I don’t understand though, their term ended last Friday. Let’s go to an easier question, I was wondering how many girls were in the Google doc/are applying to DS?

What date do you think we should give up on?
I think if they haven’t gotten to us by the 23rd, we should assume we were rejected.

Do you guys remember that DS has extended its deadline because of the Sandy?
As a result, So, i think we should wait for a week more…maybe…

I took advantage of the Sandy deadline, but in my confirmation email of receipt they said that they’d get back to me in mid-December.

I’m just surprised that if they’ve been making calls, no one on CC has said anything, which was definitely not the trend for the past couple of years.

This thread is different from those of previous years’ in many different ways.
Perhaps this is simply another?

Agree with the difference. Never thought about there being another thread, hmm. Maybe a Facebook group?

On the Deep Springs Facebook page, the “number of people talking about this” statistic jumped to 5 people talking about Deep Springs from 12/9/12 to 12/15/12.
Assuming what that was was people being informed, then posting that they made it to round two on Facebook. Another possibility is that people are simply posting, saying “So nervous about Deep Springs, why haven’t they informed me?”. The former seems more plausible to me.
I am resigned to my fate. The dread is cosmic.
:(

Call it wishful thinking but it seems to me like the combination of sandy and more importantly the coeducation struggle has forced apcom to take more time with the applications than in previous years. Also if they said Wednesday at the latest there is a good chance that they are taking as much time as possible. Strangely enough though there’s nothing on their website about the outcome of the coeducation hearing…maybe they’re waiting to hear back from the judge?

Also lets be honest here, if ThePinko* didn’t make it to round two nobody did.

ThePinko can you just be honest, are you like a grad professor ***ing around with us?

Hey man–Lester Bangs iz god! But, anyway–I think he’d love everything you said about him; he wouldn’t touch “art” or sophistication or grown-up stuff with a 10 foot pole. He’s a rock writer, and, after all “rock is mainly about beginnings, about youth and uncertainty and asserting yourself way before you know what the **** you’re doing.” Cool that you know 'im, though.
No calls yet! Suspense–especially as a female applicant!

Hahaha agreed with KennyG. ThePinko you shouldn’t worry! Just relax.

I also remember on their website "In addition, during a transitional period the college plans to prioritize achieving gender balance in the student body; we plan to admit a coeducational class in 2013 that is at least one half female. "

Chances are that they made two lists, one for coeducation and an all male one. I agree that they may just be waiting for the final outcome. If I didn’t introduce myself properly, I’m another applicant!! Feel free to ask me any questions. I may stand out by the fact that my list of books was rather short.

If previous years hold up, DS takes ~40 out of around 200 applicants. So roughly 20%. There are 16 of us posting on this thread. Granted it’s impossible to tell with such a small sample size, but approximately 3 of us should move on to the second round. Could be 0, could be almost all. But if calls had already gone out, we probably should have heard at least SOMETHING from one of those theoretical “3.”

Plus, given the nature of such a small number of people who know about DS/are applying, people’s need to relate this good news to others who are in their same situation is highly likely.

Just some food for thought. I wouldn’t worry about. My nerves definitely don’t have the same patience though…

First time posting here, I just felt the need to anonymously add some input, for whatever it may be worth. You guys (I’m assuming most of you are guys, I haven’t read through the thread, I just browsed to see if anyone knew when the letters would be sent out) shouldn’t act like your entire life is weighted in this decision. If it is right for you to go to Deep Springs, you will get in. If not, the universe obviously has greater things planned. Remember: you can change the world regardless of where you go to college. Just some more food for thought.

With such a limited online presence of applicants it’s hard too tell what’s happening in the grand scheme of admissions, but I’d imagine that as long as no one’s heard back yet, no one should be worried about their application being rejected or lost or what have you. Hopefully the solidarity can keep everyone somewhat sane.

Anyways, it’s probably better to focus on putting in a good push at the end of the semester than to have DS at the forefront of your mind; finals are important too.

I’m a female applicant and an undergraduate freshman. I’m interested to know how many of you are currently in high school?
