Kaly–yep…my d is a new sophomore. (Flying home right now for spring break :-)

Waitlisted for class of 2014.):
I really want to get in, I have good grades and my interview went very well. Does any one know how many people got off the wait list last year? Thanks.

Plese post your DA questions/results here rather than on multiple Deerfield threads. One thread is easier to follow. :)

I was accepted as well (VERY suprised, I have no ‘hook’,)
Does anyone know how the dress code is? I remember my tour guide saying something about layering but thats about it.

oh wow - asuming you are a girl…

No jeans, sweats, hoods or writing on shirts. Two visible layers on top with one layer being a sweater or blazer/jacket. No super short skirts or shorts. Sleeveless dresses require a second layer, dresses with sleeves are ok without.

Stock up on dresses, cords, cardigans and plain T-shirts or camisoles to layer. Tights to wear under dresses in the winter. Also bring your rainboots (Hunter is the brand of choice), snow boots, flats, and sandals (Jack Rogers are popular).

Class dress required for class, sit-down meals, traveling to athletic events, some academy events. Outside of class dress mostly jeans and Deerfield sweats!

Hello, I will be a new sophomore at Deerfield for 2011-12.
I was wondering whether there was a full orchestra (strings, winds, brass, and percussion) at Deerfield. Here in my suburban town in Texas, I travel for 2 hours to go to Houston, the closest major city, to participate in the youth symphony orchestra. I really would go to extremes to get more orchestra experience, but I would really rather be in a full orchestra on campus (if there is one). Anybody know? I looked at Deerfield’s website, but I really couldn’t find anything.

Also, is there a fencing team/club at DA?

Tyum, im going to be a repeat sophomore so I don’t exactly know for sure, but I think I saw some pictures on the website of people with intruments; I’m sure that they have one.
That’d be a good question for revisit!

Please keep the Deerfield conversations and question here. The other Deerfield threads will be buried in a few days. :)

The poster and green and white M&M’s arrived today. (Unfortunately, my son ate them all before I could ask for one.) :)

I just recieved mine too as well as handwritten postcards from my interviewer and a sports captain. I’m SO impressed with DA, I was on the fence about it before but now I’m so excited for revisits (: CKSABS, what grade is your son going into?

What’s on that poster? The door?

I also received the poster and green and white m&ms today! Scrumptious!

The poster has a slight aerial view of a part of the campus in the morning, since there appears to be fog in some areas.

ohxwowxlovely - My younger son will enter as a freshman. My older son is currently a sophomore at DA.

Oh okay, I’ll be a repeat sophomore.
Do you happen to know if all of the meals are sitdown, everyday?

I believe only seven meals per week are sit-down. Sunday, Monday Tuesday and Thursday dinner and Monday Tuesday and Thursday lunch. Winter term even less.

Wow, many of you guys are so very lucky to have been accepted into Deerfield. Deerfield has been my first choice ever since the beginning of the admission process, but I was wait-listed. But hey, I’m just glad it wasn’t a rejection. Congratulations to all of you people that made it in, and I’m very very jealous of you.

Aw, aaralyn, it’s okay! 塞翁失马 焉知非福! (About this guy who lost his horse, but it returned with a stallion. His son fell off the horse while riding, injuring his leg, thus not qualifying for the army, where the majority of the people who did didn’t come back alive.)

Besides, you still have a chance! ^^ 화이팅~~

<3 geek

@geek; haha thank you for the encouragement! I’ve actually heard that story before. Are you Chinese or Korean? xD I don’t know what the last korean phrase means. And yes, I really REALLY hope I get pulled off the waitlist. :)

It means “Fighting!” which is a phrase of encouragement in korea! ^^
I’m Singaporean, so we’re all bilingual here (English & Chinese). But I self-studied Malay and Korean as well :)
