Not that I know of…but there should be! Are you class of 2015???

would it be hard for an incoming junior to transition at deerfield? how about academic / sports / art opportunities?

hey did anyone coming into deerfield in the fall recieve their science placement tests yet? I havent and am getting kind of nervous…

Maybe you should call the school…I’m sure they could tell you something about science placements

It has been several years – but I don’t recall Ds doing any science placement tests, just math and language. Schedules should be out in a few weeks and there is opportunity to discuss a change if you do not get the science level you expect.

I did math and language placement tests, but not a science one.

Incoming Deerfield freshmen…there’s a FB page.

My d was new last year and like mom1012 said, there was no placement test for science. My d says that schedules should be out after August 1. House assignments usually dont come out until 2 weeks before the term begins.

Feel free to call/email the academy. Though they are really busy now, getting ready for the new year, I am sure they will answer any questions you have.

Remember, the only dumb question, is the one that doesnt get asked. You arent the only one with any question!

p.s. I am a teacher, thus the “question remark”!

Any one know when the freshman class schedules are coming out?

I was looking through the Deerfield Viewbook, and as an off-campus interviewee, the only person in my area is a former Parent. Since they aren’t exactly AOs, is it going to affect my chances at the school?

I was told by my green key ( I think that’s what she’s called ) that we’d be getting the schedules in the first week of August, so they’ll be here any day now

Coming in as a new Junior is not a problem–somewhere around 1/3 of the school is new every year! And although most kids will have known each other in your class, there will be 15-20 other new juniors, so you won’t be tagged as “the new kid”. However, it is probably easier coming in as a new freshman or sophomore since a lot of people would be in the same boat, with the same questions, and same challenges.

The most important advice to incoming juniors would be to make yourself vulnerable; instead of sitting in your room whenever you’re not attending sit down meals and classes, go out and sit with people you don’t know at walk thru lunches. Or introduce yourself to your neighbors. While everyone at Deerfield is welcoming and genuinely wants to get to know you (VERY strong community feel at DA), you need to remember to do your part as well and make it easier to establish friendships.

Remember, the growth of friendships at deerfield is entirely exponential. On day one you might make one friend, but by day five you might have twenty, and by day 14 you will have 50. Since everyone at Deerfield knows everyone’s name, when you meet someone you aren’t just meeting one person necessarily. You are opening up opportunity to get to know all of their friends. Regardless, as long as you can carry out a conversation, you will love Deerfield.

How are dorms at Deerfield? I’ve been looking for info on them but have yet to be successful.

Underclassmen dorms are OKAY. Compared to many buildings on campus, they are quite old. However, they are well maintained and clean. Juniors and Seniors of course have the better and newer dorms. These are luxurious and above average dorms (brick buildings, nice big windows, new furniture, carpeted, etc) by boarding school standards and wayyy better than college dorms.

What furniture (if any) do you suggest purchasing for an underclassmen dorm?

Do the underclassmen dorms have carpet or hardwood floors?

They are in a sand box.

What a dreamer?

When do dorm assignments come out

They were supposed to be posted on Monday, so who knows. Many students are irritated by the delay.
