Deerfield students

Hi,
Are there any current deerfield students here who can tell me as much as they can about the school? I would love to get to know deerfield better before making the final decision whether to go there)) could anyone please tell me about the academics, residential life(dorms, weekends, etc…), social life, how strict the school is, adaptation to the school and anything else you feel is necessary!
Thank you so much!!!

I’m also curious to learn if there is an update on the lawsuit against Deerfield re: gender discrimination and whether most female students at Deerfield agree with the assertions in the lawsuit. Is it being discussed among the girls? (I would imagine it is being discussed mostly among upperclassmen, and not freshmen, but I’m curious.)

Gee …Did your Kid apply and did your student get accepted? If you are curious, it’s easy to get the student view, not only via this thread and other helpful threads but…

also by doing a web search for editorials in the Deerfield Scroll…there was a lot of press on this a few months ago… Yes, students talked about it and moved on because they were so busy working their __off at this highly competitive school. Start with the interview of the female HOS. Also, at least one student we know at school wrote an editorial about it in the Boston Globe. The girls we know there are strong and We cant imagine them NOT standing up for themselves. Have you actually met a Deerfield girl?

The lawsuit has very little to do with current daily life of the students at this school. Let’s be honest: Some issues of male behavior are present in “mansplaining” in many schools and you better be prepared to compete at the Harkness table @ any NE school. Find your voice.

If you have been fortunate to have been accepted to DA and want realistic insights into life at this very historic school, there are parents and students who can share their actual experiences. IMHO: Not everyone is cut out for DA. It’s a high energy school with an extraordinary and diverse community of students from around the world. Plus, they have a great golf team.

There is a reason why Deerfield is known throughout the world…and it’s not because of the recent Boston Globe article. It’s based on excellence and tradition since 1797.

Yes, it’s a mix of traditional prep school and progressive thinking…for example, Bill Ayers and his friend just spoke at the school. But, it’s not for “snowflakes”…let’s not waste our time. Most students there are strong in academics and in sports. They appreciate the investment they are making in their education and are driven…Also, many students excel in the visual and performing arts. DA students are Smart, sporty, STEM, and creative. It’s a school that is highly selective and it selects for the right fit. It’s tough and competitive, but also tons of fun with an amazing school spirit.
It is rigorous in academics and athletics. If you are are seeking an EST- easy type of experience or Kumbaya vibe, then IMHO, it’s not for you. That’s ok.

If you have been accepted, then you must be an amazing person…what a great opportunity you have earned. You will know if is right for you during Revisit. If not, then…

Namaste and…

My daughter is a junior at Deerfield and I have to say no boy is going to make her feel inferior. I would be happy to connect you with her if you’d like to pm me.

I was just talking with a coworker today about the first time we stepped on to the campus. I think my DD knew from that moment that DA was a very special environment. Everything about it is just right - size, facilities, location, and the list goes on.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

While a good question, it served only to hijack this thread. So I’d suggest starting a new discussion.
