Deerfield was definitely one of my top choices this year and I was somewhat disappointed to get a wait list notification. On the other hand I was accepted to Northfield Mount Hermon ...

I am not sure about the wait list, how likely is it to get a spot ? I am sure it doesn't happen often ! Deerfield is a great school and i wouldn't see why anyone would turn down an offer to go there.

SO i was wondering like how many people are usually on a wait list ? and has anyone heard of positive experiences with the Wait list ?

Nobody can really parse a waitlist. You may hear that in some years x number of people get taken off the list, but the list is not like a waitlist for Freshman year in college, where you have a pool of people basically looking to round out a single class. In prep school waitlists, there are 9 - PG classes, each of which has their own distinct waitlist. Thus, in the year where the school takes 10 off the waitlist, 5 could be in 9 or 5 in PG and NONE in the particular year that you are applying for. Thus, prep school waitlists are much more nuanced that college lists and so no one can give you any particular feel for chances, as even if some are taken, those that are taken may no necessarily be at all relevant to your grade.
