Deerfield

So, for you guys who got waitlisted, whose going to stay on the waitlist and would go if you got in?

Accepted. I plan to attend (and I can't wait)!!!!!!!

I still haven't heard from Deerfield. :D

You need to call them on Monday, Chaos.

Apparently, my application is incomplete, even though I had my school "send" my grades in November. I went to the guidance office at least 5 times after that as well to make sure my current grades were sent. It turns out the person in charge of sending transcripts sent the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade transcripts, but not the 9th grade one. I am a late applicant now.

The communication breakdown here is distressing. First, how did the school not send grades? Second, how did Deerfield let the application sit there incomplete. Further, schools that have "complete" applications are free to (and sometimes do) contact the applicant's school for an update. Deerfield was free to inquire directly as they had your permission form and grades up to this year.

I'd consider asking for a refund.

I've said it before...but it's worth repeating. At Andover, which has a February 1 application deadline, they sent a letter AND an e-mail to me S several days after the deadline passed letting him know that his application was not yet complete. And, even at that date, they encouraged him to send in the rest of his materials to ensure a March 10 decision. At the time, all he had submitted was the money (so they weren't digging for that), a preliminary application form, an interview...and that's it. No SSAT scores, no recs, no transcripts, no essays...and they (1) took extra steps to let us know that the application that he started was incomplete; and (2) allowed him some leeway to get it finished...even though the pending items were clearly items in his control to finish.

Not every school's admission office can be as together as Andover's is (in fact, in my mind, no school matches them in terms of communication and efficiency). But this result is mind-boggling...and all the more egregious if there were signals conveyed that the application was being processed as timely.

The good news is that the Admission Office is not the school. There's still hope for Deerfield even if their admission office dropped the ball. I'd ask for a refund myself...as you probably wouldn't pay to submit an application to Deerfield today. And yet, that's exactly where you stand.

do you think he should have his guidance counselor call?

didnt they send u postcards saying that your app was incomplete? this is ridiculous i know many schools do that and i think it's more fair that way

yes all schools that i have heard of send you postcards confirming that they have recieved all of your application stuff..i dont see how deerfield could just stare at your incomplete application then inform you after the fact that it needs to be finished..

Chaos you ( probably your parents) need to make an official visit to your current school and have them dragged onto the carpet.Your head of school should then call Deerfield in front of you and conference.Questions should be directed to both schools if you were never notified.this is pure crap.

I actually believe that at some point of time, I received a postcard from Deerfield saying my application was complete. :p

Did you keep the card? If you did, you could tell Deerfield. I'm very sorry that such a fate befell you Chaos. It sucks. :(
