Deferment? (BU)

Hello, I’ve posted here before, but just to summarize: I am a transfer student from a CC. I used to go to UMASS Boston, so I could fill out a readmission form and return, but I would get no financial aid as a transfer (I called to make sure of this travesty).

I also got accepted to BU, but I got very little financial aid (about $18,000), even though I am “high need”. Now, I am balking at paying full price at UMASS, especially because they don’t actually have the major I want: international affairs/relations. BU has much more to offer but it is incredibly expensive. While I’m waiting on Northeastern’s decision, I’m wondering if there is any way at all that I can get more financial aid out of these schools.

Can somebody tell me how deferment works? Would choosing to go back to school later change my financial aid at all? Apparently, BU works on a first-come-first-serve basis (which I did not know). Do they redo this every semester? Or is it only when you apply?

(Sorry if this is more about financial aid but I suppose deferment belongs here more)

You need to talk to the BU FA dept to get your answers.

It is hard to get aid as a transfer student. But talk to someone in the financial aid office and see if they can do anything more for you.

please don’t go to UMass Boston. Go literally anywhere else. Trust me.

@laurrodes Why do you say that?

The campus is just downright depressing and its a commuter school so no one is there on the weekends. It is extremely different from BU and not worth paying full price for. The academics are very subpar.

@laurrodes Hm honestly, I found that people were actually desperate to make friends because there are so many commuters, so people were very nice. Also, you still come into contact with other people from other schools. I just hate UMB’s admin offices and financial aid people. I have a burning hatred for that department LOL (jk…kinda).

I just love the programs BU offers, though. It has everything I want :frowning: UMB doesn’t.
