Deferral :(

If anyone got deferred from Rice then accepted in RD, what did you do to increase you chances? Your advice is much needed. Thanks!

I got deferred (from ID), then waitlisted, then admitted. I did nothing. So maybe don’t follow my example.

Over the past couple of years, Rice has been trying to increase its class sizes. Last year, however, the class was too big because the yield rate was higher than expected. To combat this, it would make sense to admit a lower number of people than usual, and use the deferral process to ensure the desired class size. While this is just my (and my dad’s) opinion, it could mean that getting deferred this year could work out better than usual. Good luck!

Hmm. Make’s a lot of sense, readfreak. Thanks!

Hey guys. I know the time is a little different in this thread but I got deferred just this Dec 2012. While it totally sucked and was just another huge straw on the camel’s back in my life, I was able to cope by really leaning on God. This may sound kinda cheesy but I know I used all the help I could get. I wish all of you the best of luck in the RD and I know that you will get by.

2 years ago as my son was waiting for decisions, he got a similar email from Harvard. An hour an a half later we got the “oops disregard that last email” email. He ended up getting into a lot of great schools, but not Harvard, and is happy attending Johns Hopkins on a full scholarship! You will end up where you were meant to be!! Good Luck to all of you!!
