Hi, I just got deferred from Cornell ED for ILR. I was just wondering what are the acceptance rates of those deferred? I have a legacy but I don't know if that helped or worked against me (deferring me out of courtesy).

Here's an extremely brief overview of my app:
ACT: 31
GPA: 97 Unweighted, 106 Weighted
Race: Asian
Location: NY
AP: total of 9 APs by the end of senior year
Senior courseload: 5 APs (Env, Calc AB, Lit, Spanish, Gov)
Extracurriculars: Red Cross Pres, Env Club Secretary, NEHS Treasurer, Key Club, and tons of honor societies
Essays: I don't think I'm in a right position to critique my essays, but I'd say they were good.
Recs: good
Legacy: One of my parents went to Cornell

If anyone was in this position in previous years, please tell and include some advice!
Thank you!

What’s your class ranking? If you are top 10%, I would have someone read your essay(s) and application. Did your parent go to UG? I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t have been admitted except maybe your test score. It is a bit low for an Asian to be competitive, but not out of ballpark.

@oldfort My school doesn’t rank, but I would say I’m in the top 10% of my class. And yes, my parent went to Cornell for ILR undergrad. Thanks for the reply.
I’m pretty disappointed with myself, to say the least, with my outcome…

@bigred19, yeah, I get that, I was just curious of how it got so much higher. For example, my school does a 5% boost for honors, and a 10% boost for ap. Getting a 106 would literally involve taking every ap class and getting a 100 in all of them (because there are some required non weighted classes) . So I just wanted to know, lol

Yeah, that makes sense, I just wanted to know haha. But yeah, I got deferred too (CALS) with a legacy (father) , so we’re on the same page there.

@jamesjunkers Oh wow, I’m surprised you got deferred. You seem like a strong applicant and an active poster on the Cornell ED page. Good luck and hopefully we both get in!
