I want to go into business but was deferred at Penn. I'm kind of scared, but I'm not loosing hope entirely Ten percent of deferred applicants get in so I have some sort of shot...I intend to write a compelling/unique letter of interest and send in a rec from an employer who's up there in rank...but for other schools

I've gotten into University of Michigan..I'm waiting on a Ross Pre Admit, but apparently its pretty easy to transfer to the business school there once you're a freshman anyways. So far I'm thinking NYU Stern for sure, Emory, and WashU but I want a couple more solid options...suggestions?

I think Stern is a good reach for you. Have you tried Sloan and Haas? I’m not sure that they give a Bachelor’s degree in Business. Just make it sure!

Agree with above choices. However, if you’ll be needing financial aid, NYU cannot meet need (and says so on its webpage).

Rank: 5/ 550 people
GPA: 4.7 (out of 4 due to weighting…unweighted is 3.94)
Class load: Hardest Possible at our school.
ACT: 30 (■■■)

Are you in-state for UMich? If not, you can’t expect aid from them, either (OOS UMich COA is $50k). However, if money is no object, then you’re fine! :)

What about CMU? It has a very good business school, a good friend’s son is there and he is doing very well. Cornell’s AEM may also be a good option for you. You don’t necessary need to go to UG business school to go into business. If you like UPenn, Cornell maybe a good fit for you.

I hope you hear good news from Wharton. As for the other UG business programs, if you feel it’s pretty easy to get into Ross after your freshman year, why are you even considering attending schools that are no better?I

If the OP isn’t in-state for UMich and needs FA, then he/she might be wanting to get accepted at a school known for aid. UMich won’t meet need for an OOS student.

Thanks a ton for all of this advice! I just love CC!

Yeah, unfortunately, I’m not in-state for UMich. So I kind of would like one strong, financially possible school too. Although my parents seem to be okay with UMich, I think it’s nice to just have one where if god forbid, we can’t afford a school like UMich come April, I have one other good option…if such a thing exists! lol

Also, do you think it’s worth it to try and apply to one more Ivy even though I got deferred here? I was thinking of doing so but now I’m kind of hesitant…

Illinois. I got into UIUC too. In fact, I just got an e-mail from the Dean for the Business Honors Program which may give me a pretty hefty scholarship and a fully funded study abroad trip…so I think I won’t apply to many more schools now. I’ll wait on Penn, apply to NYU, and have already applied Emory and WashU, and I am considering Georgetown/Columbia.

I was concerned about my financial options but after recieving this e-mail from U of I (though it has yet to be confirmed), I that will be taken care of.
