Deferred by Ohio State

It’s 10 weeks, June 20th to August 19th. It works like any other quarter, you pay all your fees, take classes, and then take whatever finals you need to take and you’re done. Autumn quarter starts September 20 something so you have about a month in between.

I’m waiting on a call back from OSU but they said could be 24-48 hours so maybe someone knows here? My daughter is in the same boat, received the wait list letter for Columbus campus.

She plans on going on the wait list and the letter says you must indicate a second option, start summer quarter or regional campus. She’d consider starting summer quarter. So does that mean if she doesn’t get off wait list for fall, she’s in for fall as long as she starts in the summer?

Yes if she starts in summer after not getting accepted june 1st for fall, she’s automatically in for the fall semester. Thats what I plan on doing. But they told me that all i have to do is take one 5 week course but apparantly its a 10 week full time one.

Thanks for that info! Her letter says if she choses summer option she must enroll full time, 12 or more quarter hours.

if i choose to be put on the waitlist and enroll for summer quarter as my backup does that mean that i’m locked in?
cause i think i’m going to accept another school’s offer and then i will have to wait and see how much financial aid i will be offered since i am applying as an oos student and idk if my parents will be able to afford the oos tuition.
so if i get accepted and i can’t afford to go there can i can still go to another school right?

Oh my Gosh i am so happy that i found this Forum because this is exactly what i am going through. I have decided to check to attend summer and be put on the waiting list that way no matter what happens i will be attending OSU: main. I understand the cons of attending the summer session but honestly it’s only for 5 weeks and i would be a quarter ahead, i get to know the professors because the classes will be smaller, and campus will be quite. i was also thinning that maybe i could commute that way i will still be spending time at home ( i only live 30 mins away from the main campus) i think the summer option is a great preparation opportunity for what is to come in he fall.
Dilemma: my parents, my dad wants me to attend Purdue and no lie i love that school but the problem is if i attend Purdue we will have thousands of dollars in loan even w/ some of my scholarships, his problem is the summer program with OSU. I just don’t know what to do. I want to make my college decision and right now OSU is the right one to make. Why take out Thousands of dollars in loans when i have a school just as good in state? IDK what to do right now i am in a world of confusion.

^You would attend classes for 10 weeks, not 5. If you attend summer quarter you MUST enroll full time. So, it will be longer than you think. Summer quarter starts June 20 and end in mid-August sometime. There’s roughly a month inbetween summer and autumn quarters. FYI.

OK thank you. Do you know if financial aid would cover that summer enrollment? Also, do you have to live on campus or can you commute from home to campus?

In terms of financial aid, it seems doubtful that people admitted after May 1st will recieve financial aid. Chances of getting money from OSU’s FAFSA fund and other outside scholarships that OSU runs are slim to none because they would have given all the money out to already admitted students. If there are still funds available by the time June rolls around, then yes you might still be able to get some financial aid. Also, if you did file the FAFSA on time and all that jazz, you should still be eligible for loans if anything. Regardless, NO financial aid is awarded until you are admitted to the university. In terms of living, they say that freshman can have a car to communte, but ONLY for summer quarter. Once autumn quarter starts you can’t have a car anymore. You don’t have to live on campus over the summer, but you can as well. They told me that the dorms that are mainly open are the ones in the North and a few in the South parts of campus. So, living on or off campus would be your choice.

i am on the same boat

waitlisted and chose summer-columbus as my second choice
if i do not get in for autumn at columbus am i guarenteed summer at minimum. and if i choose to go to the summer program, am i automatically locked in for the whole year (autumn, winter)

thx for the help

If you got accepted into a branch campus already does that mean that you have no chance of being deferred to the main campus?

Just so you know, OSU is changing to semesters this upcoming school year, so classes won’t start around September 20th like in past years as Fizban88 stated, but rather classes will start in late August.

@Jed1234: YES! If you have applied to the main Columbus campus on your original application and have heard back from them offering you admittance to a regional campus, then that’s their decision on your application. SO, if that happened to you, then sadly you were denied admission to the main campus, however you CAN attend a regional campus for a year and then transition to the Columbus campus the following year.

I sent mine on November 19th and I still haven’t heard back yet. I feel like I should be worrying right now :frowning: I picked business as my major.
